hey guys,
sorry if this has been asked be4, but my search only bought up problems with diffs not disengaging...
On the freeway today in my white Jimny, the diff light started flashing (as it does whilst it's trying to engage), then would randomly turn off. the wires are farked and it's never really endaged properly but I've not worried about it coz I use my other car to fourby.
Anyhoo, it did it a few more times, then I could FEEL (and hear) it actually trying engage. Is there an easy way to disconnect it coz I recon maybe the heat on the exposed wires is messing it up?
I was thinking of just pulling out the fuse, but is that just for the light in the dash? Where is the actual connection so I can stop the bastard from locking in - especially when I'm fanging up a highway.

can you follow the wires that are burnt and see if they end in a plug somewhere? if there is a plug upstream (like on the bit fat loom on the firewall) side, unplugging that should kill it
the fuse would be for the whole system as well, I am suprised it hasnt blown yet

Un plug the buggered wire's from the transfer, & just to be sure, there is a lil vaccume switch under the bonnet, unplug that to..
Oh, & book in at Stekky's Suzuki love shop.. :stekky:

Or not........
Could also be the front hub's trying to lock in, from a short in the transfer harness.....

Oh year, this is fixed, the 4wd light switch had at one stage rubbed against the exhaust, causing the outer sheath to melt, then once water got in the 2 wire's would make contact, the control module then thinks 4wd is selected & try's to engage the front hub's..
replace burnt section & conduct, re-routing out of the exhaust's way..
& Liz made lunch...
& poked hole's in her car...

Hey Zookliz when it happens does it make like a grinding whiring noise at the source? Or is it simply the 4WD light coming on?

The light would come on, but then I'd feel the freaking thing trying to engage through the floor.
I can't hear what it sounds like over the horrible noise the engine makes
but it definately was trying to 'clunk' in.
all good now though, once I got the water out of it, and steaky replaced the wiring it's fine.
under my car is a depressing place to be

Oh okay, when i get bumps at speed my hubs or something start to make that clunking grinding noise.
The only way i can stop it is to pull over and either come to a complete stop or jam it in 4WD at 20km/h.
Was that the same thing?

no, but mine does that too - if i hit a speen bump too fast (as i usually do) it sets them off!
annoying, isn't it!
