*'99 Jimny Auto* It seeme that the front LH auto hub wants to self engage.. On deceleration fron 40ks you can hear it grating, at 5ks it seems to grab in, or out? There is no indication light coming on Just seems to be at times of high vacuum, ie coasting to a stop. Are the hubs spring return? could it be a broken spring? Possible leaking vac switch/valve? There is no noise or probs in 4WD..... This is the 'stick shift' 4WD NOT Electronic............ Your inputs appreciated...........Bill

Not sure what is causing that, but ditch them and get manual locking hubs. JMO |

I had thoughts along that line, but if I could I would rather keep the auto's as I have found them very handy, no muddy boots !! |

That's why i like mine, but once they pack up i will swap over to manual locking hubs, to save the hassle of fixings the auto ones. |

Thanks Dank, on from there I found a great big jimny site with all the details on the auto hub setup and operations, They are a bit complex.. thoughts now are towards manual hubs !!!! But would still rather the auto's... muddy boots reason !!! Any more help would be appreciated from all Regards to all Bill |

first step in problem solving has to be pull the vacuum lines off and plug them and drive around for a while, if it stops then start looking for where the vacuum gets through, if it doesnt it in the hub somewhere. Dont discount it being the brakes either |

Any more help would be appreciated from all Regards to all Bill thats exactly why i put manual hubs on mine, i couldn't be bothered mucking around to fix the auto hubs when i knew they would fail again. fitting manual hubs is piss easy, takes about 10mins once you have the spacers. only down side to manual hubs is when you go off-road then forget to take the hubs out then go up the beach a week later and then "put the hubs in" and nearly get bogged casue of 2wd! hahahhahahaha |

About 30mins ago I did the exact same thing. Went down this track licked my hubs in then went for a "recon play". Then I was stuck with one wheel in some mud not going anywhere front wheel in my side wasnt moving and I thought the other side may have been spinning. Got out and saw they were on "FREE". So I smacked my forehead and drove on without an issue. |

go to the wreckers and get some sierra hubs the will fit. then go to a machine shop and ask them to turn up some 10mm thick rings on the lathe using the od of the sierra hubs and the id as just inside the small lip on the inside of the hubs. shouldn't be to expensive i don't remember how much mine were but it wasn't to much. |

you could go super lazy and fit drive flanges from a vitara. Constantly locked front means it will be spinning all the time....but it solves the muddy boots issue! |

Actually welding, or fitting a packing block might not be such a bad idea,,,, at least till I can find a set of manual hubs...................... |

If I was happy with 2WD, YES..... I use our New SX4 for 2WD WORK,,,,,, OK back to looking for the manuals .... Any around??? (cheap) I see new ones around but are a bit pricey...........
