Post subject:  which grease for swivel hubs/wheel bearings?

hey guys,

I will be doing a disc brake conversion on my LJ next week. At the same time i'll be rebuilding the swivel hubs, replacing wheel bearings, kingpins and packing the cv's.

Just wondering what is the best grease for each of the bearings, the cv's and the swivel housing?

I bought a tub of castrol htb but someone was telling me to use lithium based grease because of it's resistance to water? :?

bearing's you want HTB grease (High Temp Bearing)
For the Cv's & hub a molly, I have run HTB in hub's, worked well but I believe the short cv life could of been because I was to cheap to get different grease when I had HTB in stock..

:helloo: get lot's of rag's to, ripco sell 20kg bag's of the bugger's...

Yes, you need lots of rags. An idea might be to put a drain pan under the swivel housing cos of all the yukky stuff that comes out

It does work, "BUT" , cv's need some different property's, they don't get any where near as hot..

Does it wash out with oil tho?

I suppose like most greases yes oil would dilute it.
But this stuff is the stickiest shit ive ever seen, I'm using it so I can use the same guns to do wheel bearings on my trailers and piviot pins and slides on cherry pickers etc.

we get very wet winters etc where I live and good water washout greases are a must if you want shit to last.
