hey ..on my 91 vitara carby ..of a morning when its cold it idles at about 2000rpm...which know there is something going on because it never used to do this... i know for sure it isnt the thermistat staying open to keep the engine cold because i replaced it a couple of days ago when i blew a hose....i remember a while ago reading about this sort of thing but i cant find the thread...something about a iac valve??...i found some topics like that but no help...i have searched the forums as well.. maybe someone could show me some pics of what i need to adjusted/fix etc or explain where it is.....thanks heap...mitch

YEah my little stocka (carby model) does the same thing untill the engine reaches temp, cold start idle 2,000rpm (about 5mins) then it goes back down to 1,000rpm.. I assumed this is normal for a cold start?

My other Vit Zilla (EFI model) on a cold start idles at 1,500rpm untill engine reaches temp (about 5mins) then goes back down to about 900rpm...

There was another thread on this a few monthes ago but I think in that case the idle wasn't ever coming back down to normal or the auto choke was jammed on..

yer a while ago it cold idled around 1500 and now its up to 2000 and stays on for ages......im goin through tanks pretty quick as well

did you put a colder thermostat in?

I don't even have cold idle

royce wouldn't a colder thermostat mean cold idle would shut off quicker or am i barking up the wrong tree

cold idle is controlled by a wax pellet thingo on the side of the carby, colder the water the more the thing pushes the lever that ups the idle

I dont think a cooler thermostat would make a difference unless there was something funny happening but doesnt hurt to ask, could also be a blockage or air bubble up there

i have no idea if its a colder one i when up to the car parts supplier and ask for a themostat to suit this car and they look the exact same.....so wats this about a wax pellet?

does the temp gauge sit in the same spot?

look on the side of the carby where the 2 water hoses go in its inside the cylinder they attach to
check both those hoses are getting hot too
