So one of the first things I'm gonna do to my new Jimny is replace the head unit and pissy little front speakers with something half decent. I'd like to fit a set of 6" speakers in the rears and I wanted to know where other Jimny owners have mounted theirs. Cheers |

In the Jimny rear plastic panels there are speaker pin holes. There is a mount behind them in the body. Big job though. Cant remember how big the body hole was.. |

Cant remember how big the body hole was.. 100mm So 4" speaker will fit, but with a bit of effort you get get 6" speakers in there. |

how big of an effort to rip all the panels off?? weekend job? something i'll be looking at doing for some rear fill. even just with 4" |

where monkey has his mounted in the photo is ideally where I would like to place them, but what did you do with the removable flaps that those speakers are mounted onto?? Super glue?? and do you get any distortion from the vibration?? |

I cut a 6" hole in the flap, then glued it in with some glue, carn't remember what glue i used now. I carn't hear any distortion from them, because i have a sub and they a slpits, i also got a mate of mine to tune me stereo properly, so it's as lound as you can go before you hear any distortion and still sounds good. I also put sound deading stuff on the inside of all the plastic flap toi add strenght and help stop it from moving, made a bit of a difference. |

The plastic ornaments are quite flimsy, so prepare to reinforce them properly (using sound deadener at least) if you want to get rid of the plastic vibration and buzzing. The factory rear speaker holes are 10 cm in diameter and about 10 cm in depth. They will take 13 cm speakers without any major modification, depending on how the speaker is built (some are flatter, some are taller). You could fit 16 cm speakers with a spacer, but be prepared to cut into the plastic grille, as the grille won't fit properly against the speaker rim. What I've seen most smart people do is: - don't mount the larger speakers flush with the steel sheet, but a bit raised (as much as it will fit inside the rear panel; FYI, the max depth is 10 cm) - use a rubber or wood ring to keep the speaker lip away from the metal - cut out the entire speaker grille in the plastic ornament (the ribbed part) - mount the speaker covers provided with the speakers over the plastic ornament It will look something like this (the example is for front speaker, but it's the same):
