Post subject:  spring over axle help!
Couldnt find a specific enough topic on her, got some info, but not enough.

I want to do a spring over axle conversion on my sierra 94 model.
ATM it is stock as a rock.

When placing the leaves ontop of the axle does the small flat plates welded to the axle on the bottom have o be duplicated to the top??

i dont think i will need new shockies as the mount is reversed to the top.

will i need longer brake lines?

and will steering system be long enough?


Any answers will help.'

I have done other cars but not the zook! any help greatly appreciated!~

Exactly that. puts the spring over the axle from underneath it, giving more lift a smidge more travel for a whole lot of work.

There is alot of haters here that will probably say if you have to ask these questions then you probably shouldn't be doing it....

brake lines and steering is best to see exacty how long and how far is needed when the axle is bolted back to the car and the suspension has been cycled. ;)

A standard Sierra has the springs fixed underneath the diff.
A spring over means fixing the springs on top of the diff with lots of fabricating and expenses.

you can do anything with an engineers certificate... its illegal to modify the car without one anyway - technically a 2" lift and 215/75r15 tyres on a sierra are illegal in WA and need to be engineered.

LS7 - page 61 - point 1: Design of modifications that result in the vehicle body being raised by more than 50mm from the original "as manufactured" height.

Page 63: Wheels & Tyres - The overall tyre diameter can be increased by up to 26mm (four wheel drive vehicles only). Tyres fitted to commercial vehicles must not be more than 50% wider that the vehicle manufacturer's widest optional tyre.

The wheel track of off-road and four wheel drive vehicles must not be increased by more than 25mm...

LS8 - page 68 - point 1: Design of modifications that result in the vehicle body being raised by more than 50mm from the original "as manufactured" height. which includes points 6. installation of body lift and 7. alternative wheel and tyre specifications with modified axles or suspension.

So in essence.. a 215/75r15 is in fact ILLEGAL to run on a vehicle that has a stock 205/70r15 as its 35.5mm larger - exceeding the maximum allowed increase by 9.5mm, and running a larger tyre in combination with a lift of 50mm or more is also illegal.

Cool huh? =)
