Just after your guys thoughts on roof baskets, stability for travelling and what loads you usualy carry on them? also what prices you paid and sizes we are about to move from sunshine coast to cairns. And we driving up in our jimny packed up, and was thinking about a roof basket, We have rhino roof racks on a sliding track not the stock side mount ones. |

Repco have the Rola vortex racks on sale again for $199, they weigh in at about 17kg's but are heavy duty. I mainly chuck the jerry can up there and anything else that I can't be bothered fitting in the car, like swag, camp stretcher, chairs, wet tarps. It comes in handy for carrying firewood too. It also can be used as a mounting platform for lights or awnings. |

Repco dont carry the Rhino rack in NZ . They are hard to come by and run at over $400. I bought a half width Rhino rack. Can get the Oztent across my bars on one side and the rack takes all the bulky but light soft stuff in kayak wet bags. |

yea woud have to put all the stuff that could handle at least getting a bit wet. Would cover what we could with a tarp and wrap it underneath the gear. I wonder if the fittings are universal. we have the rhino sports bars, they have the thicker cross bars for aero dynamics lol |

We have that exact same Repco catalogue over here but with price differences, no eskies (of course) and no rola roof rack just the crappy Prorack range with a price difference of $100 more over here!. NZ is third world in many ways but if we wanted everything you've got in Oz all we have to do is move over there:) |

For those that are interested, I fitted my wire basket up to my Jimny yesterday. This is what it looks like. Lok about ebay and you will find some nice cheap baskets/roof racks. I bought one for the GV and it had some cruiser bars attached. I ended up re selling the bars for more than i payed for them with the basket. These are the only pics i have or it at the moment.

This is what it looks like. i first saw them on ebay. search waterproof bags. i then saw them in a BCF catalogue. prices weren't that much different. how did you secure them to the racks? thanks |

Yeh the ones repco specify in the catalogue don't fit the Jimny, but I took the catalogue with me to Supercheap and asked them to price match and I was lucky enough that they didn't compare the part numbers. Got them for $165. Part number for those interested is x3 to suit jimny with roof rails |

Didnt get a basket but ended up getting a water proof roof top cargo bag. $40 at mitre 10. Will just respray with a silicon water proof spray for that bit of extra protection and brought myself a bit of 10mm thick by 900mm x 600mm ply for a base to sit on the roof racks. $9.00 fits on the roof well just have to wait and see how it goes all packed up on the roof before we leave. |
