Hi All, hope someone can help me here. Recently replaced the clutch in my Vitara (exedy standard clutch), knowing the pedals can be heavy from previous experience with my last Vitara I replaced the clutch cable at the same time. The pedal is now rediculously heavy, it feels like a 15'spicer clutch coupled to a 15 speed road ranger gearbox, maybe worse. Every time I push the pedal down it squeeks and carries on. The cable feels notchy if thats possible. I even squirted some inox down the inner cable with the aid of a motorcycle cable luber tool. Didn't seem to help much and possibly made it worse. I repaired and reinforced the firewall where it was cracked around the cable mount point at the time, I'm afraid its going to crack again with all the effort required to disengage the clutch. As mentioned I installed an aftermarket clutch cable and wondering if these are substandard and contributing to my problem. Any advise would be appreciate as the heavy pedal is making this car a pig to drive. Cheers Ric |

Did you grease the throw out slide & pivot??? Also, remover cable & use a grease, inox is the best fix in a can, but no replacement for grease |

Hi Steak I did grease the throw out shaft where the bearing slides in and out but I didn't grease the pivot points in the cross shaft, could be an issue because I thoroughly degreased the bell housing when I had the gear box down. There was a lot of oil in there that had leaked down from the tappet cover. I could have washed out any lube in the pivot points. But how do you grease these, from memory they just ran direct on holes drilled in the housing. Cheers |

The clutch fork pivots on a little ball that is attached to the front of the gearbox (in the bellhousing). I don't think that would be causing your issue though. I remember Royce had all sorts of issues with his cable at one stage, may have been aftermarket? |

Hi Scrawn Yep, I'm starting to think the cable might be my problem, I don't think it was this bad when I first got it with the old OE cable that had a hundred million pushes on it. The OE cable at almost $100 was a bit scary and I jumped at an aftermarket cable at less than half that, this may end up being my downfall |

Have you still got the old cable? Try swapping it back on and see how it is. I dare say you might be purchasing a genuine one shortly |
