Ok so my hardtop vitara has been sitting around in the backyard for approx 4 months where in that time did not move nor drive it. Put it in 4wd today did the normal lock in the hubs, change to low range and its not engaging into 4wd at all. The 4wd light on dash comes on but definatley hasnt worked still only 2wd. Dont get what has changed/happened. Any ideas?

simplest and easiest problem to fix would be your hubs aren't engaging. Its not hard for them to get 'stuck' if it hasn't been used for a while.

I would pull the locking hubs off and have a quick check to see if they are operational and work from there.

+1. I'm guessing there is little to no grease in there. Best give the guts a good clean and pack them with fresh grease.
