Need more info, just clik/thud is pretty broad. As its only in first, I would at first guess, say its not any of the 3 you mention, as they will do it in any gear, most recognizable in first, but none the less, all gears. Can you describe what it is better ? as in, as you lift your foot off the clutch, as you power on, as you coast ?? also the noise, pretend that Im deaf and need to go by feel; an explain that way. |

check all your unis are good and greased, grease the tailshaft splines, usually cures it unless a diff or something is shot |

grab the rear drive shaft and rotate it left to right. see if you can find out where the noise is coming from, or which side of the driveline the "clunk' originates from. |

time to start saving haha I meant to ask if you know what it takes to replace these? Surely it's a get the bearings from weaves and rebuild it in the shed type of job? |

Don't save up - just fix it - The same happened to me a few years back and I kept driving thinking I would fix it when I got home and the bearing collapsed - Pinion shaft got bent and teeth came of the crown wheel - IE New diff. |

any chance you can record the sound as a video and put it on youtube or something? mine makes a small click/clunk on clutch release also - i just thought it was my trac bar hitting the springs (which its designed to do) but would be worth knowing if it actually is my diff! would jacking the rear end off the ground and turning the wheels by hand (with the locker engaged) replicate the click or does it need the weight of the car? |

mine does the same, mine started almost instantly after i got my rear auto locker installed so just put it down to that. if i release the clutch slowly it doesnt happen. |

shandy92 wrote: alien wrote: maybe its a backlash thing? maybe but my R & P were not touched during the install, so doubt it. can you feel urs? It is just your locker shandy. There is more backlash as the cross shafts take up slack in the locker. But do keep an eye on your uni's as they will flog out quicker with the locker fitted. |

nope... had the locker on and moved it back and forward rapidly and no clunks or anything of that nature... rear uni is brand new and driveshafts are full of grease... mine must be the trac bars, i can make them make noises by hand, must just sound different inside the cab. |

I hate to put a dampner on people giving things a go themselves but diffs are something that NEED to be right. If you haven't got the right tools it's probably cheaper in the long run to get someone who does know to do it. |

yeah they said its backlash at one stop suzi. yeah i know that. i would love to be able to just go in and give it to them to do but im a student and work part time at coles so the cheaper option is going to have to do. |
