Being broke at the moment has given me plenty of time up my sleeve to research what I want to do to the Jimny modification wise. Only thing I can't make up my mind on is suspension. On one hand I'm interested in the tough dog 60mm kit, but on the other hand I was thinking OME 40mm kit with 20mm coil spacers. Again, thinking back to my old Patrols, one had a 6" tough dog kit through it and the other had 2" OME with 2" spring spacers. The OME springs with Rancho shocks was a lot softer and flexed way better offroad than the tough dog kit ever did. What do you guys reckon?? |

The coil spacer and spring combo is softer and slinkier cos you're getting some of the height via the spacer not spring rate. Had coil spacers and standard springs in my old pajero. All I had to do was point the front end (being shit torsion bar springs) and the rear with the LSD and good flex followed incredibly well. |

OME all the way. I am yet to 4x4 in a car with OME suspension and not feel like i'm on a cloud. Suspension flex is greatly increased due to the soft spring rate and the extent that they will compress. Tough Dog on the other hand have a thicker coil to gain the lift height but do not sag nearly as much which will result in a more harsh ride and flex will suffer. OME all the way. |

OME has it's place. It's just a firmer ride, flex is no different. All in all I'd go with the cheaper option. |

If they sag within a couple of months, they probably flex great. Don't laugh, but I went to the site someone listed and enquired about the kit with the adjustable shocks. I doubt very much that I'll buy one, but if they are heaps cheaper freighted to your door than a quality kit, it might be worth looking into. As parts start to break, replace them with quality parts one at a time instead of an initial outlay of $$$$$ |

Price wise, I know I can get the OME kit at a discounted price through family and friends that work there. Another mate who has quite a few contacts in the 4wd industry reckons he can get me the tough dog kit at less than $1000, so I think I might hit him up when he gets back from NZ. |

I've seen too many of these kits break front shock mounts because no development has gone into the kits. and i know a few blokes who have gone from the td to ome. |

I know you're an advicate of OME products and I also know you know your stuff when it comes to Suzuki, but can you tell me what it is about the Tough Dog kits that causes the front shock mounts to break? I am a pretty good welder, but I also like to fit and forget. I'm pretty time poor and don't like spending my spare time fixing my own cars. Cheers |

So 40mm of lift enough for the tyres you want to run then, or coil spacers on top?? |

| Post subject: | Re: Jimny suspension. ARB or Tough Dog?? |
I've got 215/75r15's on it now with standard suspension and it's allright. Was thinking about 20mm coil spacers as I imagine this would stop the tyres scrubbing up in the gaurds when hitting a dip in the road at speed. Don't want to go any bigger because of gearing, etc. I done all of that with my old Sierra and don't want to go down that path again. Plans are for a nice little near standard cruiser. 215/75r15's mud terrains on black wheels (or maybe factory alloy if I can find them cheap enough), 40mm suspension with 20mm spacers, snorkel, 2" exhaust, and if the minister of financial planning still lets me spend money on it after I've done all this, an ARB front bar and a rear bar from that mic offroad on ebay |

Yeh I know that. Was going to start with the spring lift and then add the rest when I was a little more cashed up |

Haha ok. In saying that you will ned adjustable panhard rods you might get away with not having them, a few guys in the uk run 60mm even 70mm with out adjustable pandards and looking from the pics it dosen't look out to much at all. |

I think up to around 40mm, suspension should be ok with the standard panhard rods. Over that though, and I reckon you'll definitly need them |
