So I went to search,and couldn't find this thread,but typed black stuff in subject in new thread, and this title came up. I've put premium in, but still getting the shit everywhere, but maybe I'm using a different tank,I'll try to run them both dry this easter. My problem is getting the stuff off the walls. I let it sit for a few weeks,big mistake.It comes off the bare concrete floor OK, but the walls are painted cement brick. I tried degreasol 1st...no then liquid sugar soap...no then bleach,,,no.. then the three together,no...I checkened out then, incase I was making a bomb.... then tried the overflow gernie.no. Anyone had any luck? bye |

Redzook used to mark her territory when starting cold - I had a straight pipe out the side, which tended to give other people's cars black dots. I was always quietly amused by that, which made me love Redzook a little bit more everytime. I attributed it to a tired engine. |

So while this title came up, all the other posts aren't in it. someone had said that all seria's do it, but I got one here that doesn't. someone esle said try premium, and I'm gonna run that it future, cause I think I'm getting better fuel comsumption. someone ele suggested changing the tailpipe, but I just spent $60.oo to run it out behind the rear wheel cause I had fume problems. I'm starting to think tired engine may be right, but this one 's gonna stay in till it dies. bye |

the reason you get black carbon out of the pipe cold is the choke is on when cold and the engine is running a rich air fuel mixture and not burning the fuel as cleanly as it does hot, mix this with a cold exhaust and some water vapor and heres your problem. wet carbon water 
If anything premuim will make it worse when cold as its a denser fuel and will run slightly richer than regular unleaded when cold and on the choke. |

Thats carbed engines for you. As long as it doesn't continue spitting when hot, it is normal cold start up. As stated, just think of it as your zook marking its territory!

It should only blow the back stuff till its warm or at running temp, unless the rings are shot... but standard unleaded makes alot of black stuff in the exhaust  but even if the engine is tired, it doesnt mean its stuffed... so yeah, just drive it till it says, i have had enough, and gives up the ghost !

Please explain... to my thinking, Premium would be less dense than regular unleaded... you need less of it but still the same amount of air to make the same power hence it is a denser fuel. we are only talking a very small amount of difference but its there. if you put a good premuim like opitimax or mobil 8000 into a very well tuned two stroke motorcross bike setup for regular it will foul the plug in a about 5 minutes, its that much denser fuel, drop the jet sizes and problem solved and same power |
