Post subject:  Defender 90 flares
Ive been looking at Heep flares to replace my stock ones but im not a huge fan of them. Ive looked at the double black ones but there not wide enough, and cost far to much..

I like these ones, but at 7inch there too wide, and will get ripped off.

These are 6inch whice is more like what i want, but are ugly as sin.

I can get both of these for around the same price.

Then i found these things, there designed for a defender 90/110 whice have flat guards like a sierra. So should fit. They measure in at 115mm, i need 130 - 140mm. So would need some rubber on the edge, whice should also make them look a little better. They are the same price as the first two, just need a qoute on shipping.

Just want peoples thoughts on what will work here. I need something strong and flexible. I also have my EXO in the way, my stock flares need a massage to fit the exo on. The jeep ones would need a big cut. The stock WT ones just crushed and tore..


And just found this link on ebay, there selling those last flares to suit a Sierra...

what about incorporating a sheet metal flare into the exo cage? so the flares arent actually attached to the body?

I could with the back arch but that would pose issues with the front, my bar work doesnt go far enough forward, and i really think tube flares on 33x10.5 is overkill. Plus i dont think my fab skills are upto it. :helloo:

ahhhh now i see.

i saw a zuk ages ago that they spaced out the WT flare off the body with some steel box tubing bent to the right arc... that looked good cos it still retained the WT flares, then im sure they had 50mm rubber flaring on after that... so it was like 50mm box, WT flare then 50mm rubber strip.

They will still get damaged tho, ive destroyed all four flares on the last 2 trips and ripped the rubber edge off. I love the look of them but there just not strong enough, the exo only does so much at keeping the body off the ground. I think i mite give these 90 flares a shot if i cant find anything else suitable, hopefully they will just flex and not tear.

even still, the flares are only as strong as what theyre attached to... if you're constantly laying over you might as well build them off the exo so the protect the body rather than tear it to bits.

I checked the wrangler ones on google, and they look similer to the top CJ ones, but with inbuilt indicators. Still look like they would damage easly. No flare would be preferable but not legal and id end up with a cab full of mud.

Also got a qoute back on shipping those top two jeep ones and im looking at $250+ for shipping, whice would put price in line with whats available in Oz anyway(from what i have seen).

I like the rear set on the 6 inch flares you posted, can you buy two rear sets?

The fronts may be ugly, but the rears look like the bushwackers that trail tough sell. They look really nice on a zook.

Rears are $70 each. Flares, I recon as thats pretty good.

I have seen them on a few rigs and they always look really sharp. I have been wanting a set pretty badly, but I can't pay what they want for them here in the states.

A few years back maybe 3 or so? I bought silver at $10 an ounce, and sold it at $14 a few months later. I thought I was doing good. Now it is at $46 an ounce. Maybe I should have held on to the silver a tad bit longer hey?

If i can find any of the jeep rears x4 for a good price ill go that way, but people dont seem to offer them other than as a set... I mite have to hit up some aussie land rover sites aswell..

I reckon you should try those LR ones. The bushwackers are 6" and they look weird if the tyre doesn't come to the edge. Also the bushwackers have virtually no flex in them and they will just get torn off. Mate who's got them has damaged them in some way every time he's been 4wding. :lol:

You know anyone with a multimillion dollar injection moulding machine? And a full CNC machine shop capable of making CAD moulds?

Something tells me that the sales figures would be far too low to justify the expense :wink:

Oh but surely, they cannot be that hard to make. Oh, hang on, erm, if they were easy, they would be worth bout $2 each.
