is there a trick to getting the two screws at the back of the starter solenoid out? I just spent two hours with wd40 and a cold chisel and it hasn't moved

I have removed one with a supercheap impact driver before. If the screws are still intact I would try and impact driver and a heavy hammer. They aren't expensive either (although cheap ones twist/break bits regularly).

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impact_driver

How did you fit an impact driver between the engine and the fire wall? I can barely get a screw driver and my hand in there

Is that just a couple bolts around the engine?

theres 2 bolts going through the bell housing that hold it on + disconnect the 3 wires attached to it. doesn't take long.

That solinoid took some bloody muscle and WD40 to get off the other starter. Thats what 20 years of moisture will do to them.

I'm hoping that is the last one I'm going to have to replace. big hands and a little engine bay dont go.
