ok if the lights turn off the high beam wire is either cut or unplugged or the switch is burnt out
have a look at the plug on the back of the headlight (leave them plugged in), the right hand vertical pin is the high beam wire, note its colour and go looking for the same colour wire in teh big plug under the column that goes up to the headlight switch.
Now get your test light and put the clip onto an earth somewhere and probe that wire and see if the test light lights up and report back
Also just to be sure, pull the 3rd and 4th from the left in the top row fuse out and look at them to see if its blown.

no, I only wanted you to check 1 wire, the wire that matches the pin I said on the headlight plug, tell me what happens there

Are the headlights bright or dim when they are on ?
I may be wrong, but it sounds to me like most of the electrical problems you describe, stem from a bad Negative connection in the wiring somewhere...

Please keep out of the fault finding process if you dont know what you are talking about, youll jsut confuse him
if the headlights work on low we can assume the common power supply to both beams is fine and the earth from the dip switch is ok, leaving only the earth switching circuit for the high beam, hence my request to find the high beam wire at the column and see if it has power, this will tell us if there is continuity from the high beam terminal on the lights to the switch, then we can start looking at the switch or the wiring.
