It's usually the piston that corrodes and gives issues, you can usually buy these aftermarket.
It's good fun getting the piston back in the dust boot too

I just got back from 9 days over at fraser and i have noticed a few problems with my brakes: 1 - the rear hand-brake brakes stuck on the other day * 2. they would not release in reverse and i had to drive forward to get them unstuck. after which the hand brake lever now feels looser. I was assuming salty water / sand got in there. i was going to take the brake drums off next weekend and clean and adjust the brake. 2- just took the car for a tripn and i could smell brake pads. i though it might have been the rear brakes. had a look and it ended up being the front right rim, hub and brake assembly were all very hot. I am guessing the brake caliper might have got stuck on. i guessing maybe the caliper slide pins / pistons might have gummed up from all the salt and sand any ideas ???? has anyone had a similar problem? |

Yep, you're pretty much bang on the money. I would guess the caliper slides pins have corroded in the front and the shoes have stuck to the drums also from corrosion. Same situation as a car that has been left to sit for years except the corrosion is sped up by the salt |

cool thanks for that hopefully i will be able to clean it all up and re-grease everything next weekend. can you do the slide pins without needing to re-bleed the brakes? I need to get a new extended brake line between the rear chassis and diff. The hose is pretty badly damaged and oxidized. although if i get my shit together i guess i could re-kit the front calipers and get a new rear brake line and do everything at the same time |

Can do slide pins without bleeding. I would be doing everything like you suggest, then you know they're done. I'd do pads on the front and machine discs too |

i see you can get new cylinder slide pin bushes in a brake calliper seal kit http://www.suzistore.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=936 Do you think the boots are damaged if the slide pins have corroded / seized ? or is it just to be expected after 9 days on Fraser. |

OK just finished cleaning up the slide pins and re-greasing the slide pins and boots..... unfortunately i still have the same problem ( the rim and hub are hot and can smell brake pads). So i am guessing it must be the caliper piston ceasing up????? i guess i will find out tomorrow if that is the case. |

oh yeah sweet i just got the kit. it has 4 slide pin bots, a piston dust cap and a piston seal in it. I was planning on pulling the caliper off again tomorrow pulling the piston out and giving the bore a good clean up with wet and dry sand paper |

Hopefully the piston is not too coroded I could only find the rubber seals locally. I think suzi spares has the fully kit with the pistons but it was like 90 Bucks plus I have the seal kit now. Do you need compressed air to get the piston out? |

Bucks plus I have the seal kit now. Do you need compressed air to get the piston out? Compressed air or grease from a grease gun |
