I put a Isuzu 3.1l turbo intercooled in my last LWB Sierra. Very tight fit, but went really well on and off road. It did increase the front weight a little to much.

you can also put VW diesels in them if you can source a motor, there is a kit on line some where.

The only most popular vw 1.9 diesels HERE are tdi. Alot of wiring and immoboliser issues. Though ecu is tuneable to make things awesome, and some people have had success with bolting on a mech fuel pump to piss off the ecu, But overseas only..

Other small vw diesels are very, very rare here, and old.

Find one that isnt dear..

At auction, Full writeoff 2010 caddy,20thoukms, not many useable parts in a caddy as it was twisted and panels were bent, 1.9tdi, 6k..

Although a golf 1.9 motor only went for 1k not long ago.

Jimny 1.5 TD would probably fit well if you could import one from Europe.

once you learn that the suzuki engines like to rev you'll put the diesel ideas out of your mind =) life starts at 4000rpm.

Sounds good but what kind of gearbox can you run?

Post subject:  Re: sierra turbo diesel

Not to mention that most small diesels used with hydraulic drive have the wrong kind of fuel pump. With a bobcat, for instance, revs are set and the fuel pump alters fuel to hold steady revs with varying load. These pumps don't work in a mechanical drive/road car application as the pump responds to load, not throttle position.

Not to mention gearbox choice.

It's not viable IMHO, and diesels are a terrible match for the characteristics of a sierra.

Steve.

Oh yeah, they sound sweet as at 4000+rpm with a good exhaust on as well, they sure do love to rev out... :woohoo:

While a diesel engine in a Sierra may sound like a good idea, and may be a good idea in Europe... it would, IMHO, not do the sierra justice...
