I'd like to get air lockers but I really don't want to part with that much cash.
So would a LSD be worthwhile getting? Ive done a bit of a search on here and didnt find much out.
Is it true that with a lsd if one wheel comes off the ground , dose it just spin the wheel like an open diff?
I'm also looking at getting an auto locker for the front if possable.
would I even know the locker is there when i'm in 2wd?
I could handle the steering being a bit heavier when im in 4wd but i dont want it to effect on road driving.
Thanks.

Hi mate.
An LSD will cost you the same as an airlocker to buy. They aint cheap.
And whether or not the lifted wheel spins is a product of how 'tight' the LSD is. (how tightly shimmed it is)

Is that the Phantom Grip LSD? Give it a wide birth mate.

3 grand would see you with airlockers front and rear with the big compressor, fitted by ARB with a bit of diff work done as well (bearings etc).

The LSD in my old pajero was a heap better than an open diff, but there is a limit to how much it "limits slip" (as the name suggests).
A wheel in the air would leave you in the same situation as an open diff.
On say an uneven traction surface you would have both wheels having a go. Riding the handbrake gave you a little extra in some situations.
Good idea as a factory option, not worth it as an aftermarket option in my opinion.

I'm no diff expert and am only going on the brief look I had at one.
From what I've seen of it, it's just a pre-load for the planetary or spider gears (can't remember which), creating constant friction against the housing. I would imagine that it would cause premature diff failure and when 'Bugsta' fitted them to his Jimny they apparently did very little, or nothing, in the way of limiting slip.
Or maybe it was Bugsta's heavy right foot driving style.

smiffkid, how does your auto locker in the rear go accelerating out of corners when its wet and slippery?
My Jimny play car is also my partners work and back car so needs to bit safe for some one not so experienced. We have a D40 Navara for long trips but ya just cant beat the Jimny for off road ability and fun.
Cheers
