Maybe its just serendipity but I've now done the rear main oil seal on all the Zooks I've owned (Jimny, SV420 and G16A powered Samurai. There was a discussion about the J20 ones letting go after driving through deep muddy water but I'm wondering if there is a design weakness or could a blocked breather be the cause of crankcase or sump pressure building up to cause this? At the moment I've got oil leaking from the back of the Vitara and Samurai and I haven't got the wherewithal to do the work myself. Steve.

Are you sure it's the rear main? It could be leaking down from the back of the head, making it look like a rear main. They are a bugger if you can't do them yourself, a lot of labour for a minimal cost seal.
Where are you in NZ?

Yep its the main seal. I know about the tappet cover and distributer O-rings giving out but in both cases they are clean. I'm 35 km north of Wellington on the west coast.
