THIS thread, 6.00-16=725mm=28.1in.
That doesn't add up...
6.00-16 is 6inch sidewall times two plus 16 inch rim equals 28 inch OD.
28 X 25.4 = 711.2mm
6.00-16 is a
nominal tyre size, not an accurate carcass dimension, so a simple calculation of rim plus 2 sidewalls is rarely correct. But you're right, 725mm does not equal 28.1in! My whoops.
There are 2 tyre brands that currently sell 6.00-16 bar treads in Australia that I know of. Both are Indian. MRF lists their
NDMS on page 27 and gives the diameter as 735mm, or nearly 29 inches! Deestone list their
D501 in a brochure I have, and gives the diameter as 723mm.
An American brand of tyres,
STA list theirs as 28.6in or approx 724mm.
A nominal tyre size is indicative only and should never be relied on to give an accurate size. I once had two 7.50-16 tyres on an old ex-army Landrover that were over 1 1/2 inches different in overall dia despite both being 7.50-16s! One was an Olympic and the other a Hardie, both made in Australia. You should never mix brands of tyre and where possible production dates as tyre specifications will change by brand and lot number!
