my wipers stopped working the other night. I took it to the auto elec that confirm the wiper motor had burnt out possibly from stiff linkages.

Apparently to get the wiper motor out in a SJ80 hard top it is pretty involved as the glovebox does not slide out in a SJ80 compared to the early models and you need to slide the whole dash forward to get it out.

has anyone had experience getting out of these out?

yeah its a bitch of a job... the linkages on my leafy were shot last year and i took it to suzistore for them to do - luckily with the SJ70 the window folds down allowing access - otherwise yeah, you need to take off the steering wheel and then the whole dash to get at it!

theres a thread on dashboards - maybe do a search on "dash thread" or soemthing.. "show us your dash?" something liek that.

just finished getting the wiper motor out.... wasn't too bad. it is in the top corner of the on the passenger side. you basically take the top three strews out, the two on the side and a few on the bottom and you can pull the dash forward and twist it down on the passenger side enough to get a screw driver to the motor. the four screws were very tight though.

I ended up taking the steering wheel off so i could get a better look at the linkages.

It looks like the motor burnt out from corrosion on the shaft of where the wiper blades attach to the car. it was very tight to move it even with your hand. I think salt water may have gotten past the plastic covers and into the shaft over time.

I am surprised this isn't more of a common fault.
