Hey hey guys, I've found a zook, just so happens that I found one all done up, exactly what I want - hard top and all. Thing is, I'm worried that if I buy something with lockers and all that shit, will I get myself into some trouble? I read one post a while back where fatzook said not to get lockers or anything til you know the car and how it behaves etc.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Are they auto lockers or air lockers?

Dave thas just my opinion.

There is no rule about lockers, its just about what you are comfortable with. Personally I'd rather learn lifes lessons at the bottom of the hill than at the top, which is the crutial difference here I believe. Having lockers and no experience will mean that you may get your vehicle further up a track than you would if you had open diffs. Add this to inexperience, and not being sure about the correct line and you could find yourself in a right pickle!

Learning how to pick a safe line is a very valuable thing. Having lockers makes this harder because you will get much further into the wrong line before you realise, and by then it may be too late.

Remember, this is just my opinion.

Spot on, have to agree with Fatzook here. Unless you are a competent off roader start with the basics and work your way up plus you will enjoy building on your ride as you progress.

If they are air lockers can I turn them off/ not turn the compressor on?

thats the one.

Auto locker you have no real control over, Air you flick a switch.

If the car is as you want to build for half what you could build. Go ahead and buy it! Just make sure you head out with competant people who can guide you when the going gets tricky. And if your on your own or with people who are in-experienced then take it a little easy.

Just a quick note Dave..... Even if it has autos, it only takes a couple of hours to swap them out for opens, so don't worry too much about it. Just make sure the rest of it is in good order

Does that require taking anything off/ replacing anything ?

Taking the locker out and putting the spider gears in.

Be more concerned about the quality of the mods done and the overall condition of the vehicle. Check the body for rust.

It's cheaper to buy pre modified. No matter how much you. Spend on a car, you will never make it back!

Bingo. Remember when you buy a modded car, you are buying what somebody else thinks is a good idea, Not necessarily what you think is a good idea.

You're also buying all the little compromises that that owner has been living with because they can't be bothered fixing them, or has got used to them.

Odds are you're going to be at least a little bit shitty with something ( or heaps of things) once you've bought it.

I'm not saying don't buy it, just be aware that you're not necessarily buying perfection, only a list of desirable parts.

Steve.

Where is the vehicle located? Perhaps one of the forum members could check it over for you for a $50 donation to the shitbox rally
