x2 Make your cv strong and the axle will go next. What are you tyres running? |

Running 34in jungle treckers. Chromo's are alot more expensive and then i also have to get new side gears for my diff. These just press on. |

You will spend more time and money changing busted axles etc over time. If your running 34's then you basically have to have chromos or your going to brake every time you drive. Chromos are pretty cheap all things considered. |

but to answer your question they work like a treat. the cv will be fine after the rings but then the problem will be breaking the axle. having said that I ran rings on my cv's with the 34 swampers for atlest a year without axle issues. but cromo's are the way to go |

just had a look at chromo's on on lowrange. To buy chromo's, and new side gears is gonna be about $370 plus about $140 postage = $510 (480AUS) or i can buy rings for 100 with 40 postage = 140 (130AUS). pretty big price difference. have also got a couple of spare axles now cause i only break the cv. |

I can't see the point of birfield rings. They just move the breakage point into something else that's too small - the 22 spline axle. If you are super lucky and break the axle at the diff end, you might be able to get the axle out and replace it, but if you break the star in the centre of the CV (Typical if the CV goes with the wheel turned) then you've just wasted an axle, CV and birfield ring. It's false economy - you can't reuse the rings. One they're on, they're on. Steve |
