This what I did . Lifted the inner guard up 30mm
cut the inner guards from the outer . Ground off all the unnecessary brackets and crap and cleaned and painted them up.
Outer lip of inner guard. 30mm of outer guard that was left over from the virtual lift has been ground off at the spot welds.
This should retain all the integrity of the inner guard.
Out guard fully cut ,painted up and ready to be married up to inner.
Close up of front cut showing the line we took.
Weld line we took up inside of guard

The guards arent double skinned like other cars, the only spot there is 2 skins is at the bottom inch or so were the wheel arch meets the guard.

You mite get 5mm if your lucky. Once you start cutting you've pretty pretty much hit the inner gaurd... About the most you could do is bash the seam up abit.

This is pretty much what I'd planned except I was going to take it up to the top of that curved impression in the guard as opposed to the bottom. Did you have to relocate your battery and air cleaner?

So your going to cut the guard above the scallop detail , as well as lift the inner guard?
To maintain that line all the way around you will have to cut into the firewall / footwell alot , causing issues with the accelerator pedal etc. Just food for thought.
My battery is know in the rear tray , air cleaner was rotated so the intake faces towards the firewall and remounted , washer bottle was lifted up .

Thanks mate. It's probably not worth the work to go above that line then. The only reason I chose that point is that the Double
Black flares I have are going to mount slightly above that scallop/impression in the guard.
