The same two problems presents themselves for all these conversions - gearbox adaption and cost. FWD motors don't generally make a good candidate for adapting into a RWD/4WD application. Even Baleno motors are tricky compared to a vitara motor and that's a motor that already has a bolt on sump and motor mounts that work.

Figure on a motor and loom to cost upwards of $5K, then try and work out how to adapt it to a RWD gearbox.

Bear in mind that most small motors these days have never been intended for a north/south (RWD) application, and generally, there aren't any bolt on RWD suitable parts like sumps and gearboxes.

The next issue is working out exactly why you want a diesel. It will never pay for itself with fuel savings, it won't produce much more power and torque than a petrol conversion (especially one that's been anywhere near as much trouble) and you've still got to deal with the balance of road and off road gearing with the reduced rev range.

It's a lot money and effort for a whistle.

Steve.
