Post subject:  Sierra pulling to left
My 94 Sierra has an annoying tendancy to pull left due mainly to road camber. Occasionally it pulls to the right also due to road camber.

It has auto locker, spring lift, body lift & 31's.

I've replaced all steering components with new, adjusted the alignment to what I think is spot on, about 5mm toe in, even played with rear diff to align also fitted new front wheel bearings, king pin bearings.
The locker does make it a bit twitchy cornering on occasions but when in a straight line is inconsistently pulling to the left.

Is this common?
Any thoughts?

Ive got a auto locker in mine and it does similar things to what your saying. I once heard it said that they are not really a Auto Locker but a Auto Unlocker, meaning that really they are locked 90%(or more) of the time and only unlock when under enough force.

What im getting at is that because the rear diff would be mostly locked when you driving it only takes a little bit of diffrence in tyre pressure/diameter to make it want to push the car to one side or the other.

Id check tyre pressure and rotate you tyres, see if that helps.

Yeh your right about auto unlocker, it works a treat on the track
thanks for your comment if its normal I'll stop looking for a fix.

I'll check pressures & also rotate, but tyres are near new. I ever thought maybe swap springs side to side.

Do the rear springs trend to steer as they flex?


I was told recently Jap cars are set up for roads without a camber and then wonder on our roads, and an offset king pin bearing can help compenstate.

Are these available?

i've found the wider the tyre the more it tends to wander on the road.

my sierra has always pulled left slightly no matter what mods were done to it (ie: standard, with 2" lift and even now SPOA). i consider it a safety feature that i wont pull into oncomming traffic =) lol

try going up the wrong side of the road one time when there is NO CARS AT ALL. the road slopes abit to drain water off so with bigger tyres it usually goes to the left when on the correct side of the road. with the road leaning the other way you will most likely go to the right

It could be your caliper seizing up.. Had that before.

Check this, Mine used to pull to the left if I let go of the wheel (still does, exactly as you guys describe) and one day it started pulling to the right instead!

Long story short, right caliper was siezing on, then not working when I jumped on the brakes! So it would gently pull to the right, then under brakes pull hard to the left!

I've tried driving on the middle of the road to diffuse the road camber and also on highways that have road camber to the right, the car does tend to follow the road ie pulls to the right but not as much

I had the brakes apart the other day, rear cylinders were seized, fronts are tight but working, this may worth a second look.

Taszook had a front sieze up, never thought of that, thanks.
