Hi guys,

I'm sure this question has been asked atleast 1 million times, I think the issue is that there isn't a tech post. I'm not about to write on up because I have no idea as I'm new to zooks!

I believe though that there is enough people on this forum with enough knowledge to know what fits what. If we had a post in the tech section that was clear and concise. One for each vehicle that was a sticky I dont think this question would come up half as much.

So basically there should be a separate one for vits, jimmys, and sierras.

It should contain, what is the maximum tyre size that will fit, or even a list of sizes that will fit at a stock level, then at 1", then 2", then 3", 4", 5" and 6" etc. With no guard rubbing and if cutting is necessary exactly how much? What size wheel offsets where used?

So now for my question, haha. I have a vit which I recently installed a 5" lift on. Im looking at 4 options for tyres, number 1 32x12.5s, number 2 32x10.5s, number 3 31x12.5, number 4 31x10.5, what will I require to fit each of these different options?

I'm more than happy to help out with what I've suggested above once I have my tyres on.

I think the problem you're going to have is that there is no hard and fast x+y=z answers on this, as there are an infinite amount of other variables to consider such as susp, body, or virtual lift, transfer/diff gearing, ruf/changing wheelbases, rim offset vs spacers, road car/comp car and the legal side of things such as engineering/mod plates, ADRs, NCOP and Insurance.

In most cases, these variables are going to be unique for each person as to how much they will influence their decision making.

I think he's talking from a technical position rather than a guide you can take to the bank.

Other things you'd need to include is that you need to check the tyres are actually the size they say they are before you expect them to fit. Have read heaps of times that certain brands 32's are actually 31" tall and vice versa, I'm sure I didn't imagine it.

i think this would be a great idea to put in the good tech section. have sierra, vitara and jimny in the one thread, just list them all one after another.

only problem i see is there are different opinions on a few things, like 31" tyres on a sierra for example. generally people say 2" susp and 2" body, but i've read others saying just 2" body and a little grinding, or 2" suspension, grinding and extended bumpstops, etc...

It's too hard to be accurate, and there are too many variables. There's a few "truths" but there's the 400lb gorilla in the corner is guard cutting. Very few tyres can be fitted with no cutting, so if you have a "no cutting" scenario then it's not very meaningful - really, even a 31 is impossible to fit to a sierra, even with a body lift or even a SPOA if "no cutting" is the rule.

if you say "some cutting" or "virtual lift" then you need a 1000 word explanation of what that means for each scenario. Additionally, irrespective of lift height, articulation changes all the preconceptions. A car with stock travel can get away with much less cutting than a car with the same setup and more articulation.

We have everything from 35" tyres with no lift to 4" of lift and 31's in the club- it's all about what solution works for you.
