One for the Vitara boys. Just want to know what rpm a Vitara runs at at 100kph and 110kph?

And on what gearbox,eg 3sp Auto, 5sp Manual, etc

Im just finishing up putting a G16B into the Sierra (1992) and the next thing on the list is a set of reduction gears. Im running 31s (30.5inch) and tossing up between 4.9s or 6.5 reduction gears.

Ive calculated it out what both should run at in 5th gear.

100kph 110kph
4.9s 3300rpm 3600rpm
6.5s 3400rpm 3750rpm

mate i guess it depends on what you drive as to what gears you get. if you drive any sand then i wouldnt be going 6.5 as it would just be to low, so the 4.9's would be good. but if you mainly drive rock then the 6.5's might be better.

oh my vit with 29's, 5 speed man and 5:12 diff: 100kph-3100rpm, 110kph-3400rpm

I think you should check your calcs. I run ~31" tyre + 6.5 + 3.9 diffs and i'm doing about 4000rpm @ 100kph.

IMO go the 4.9s

Thanks for that. I was leaning towards the 4.9s.

I did the calc on this site http://www.lepayne.com/gears.html using
Diff ratio, 3.727
Tire size 30.5
4.9s high ratio 1.634
6.5s high ratio 1.691

Ofcourse it isnt always the same in theory as practice.

oh and i drive abit of everything. Im near for the Victorian High Country so it up sandy creek beds as well as steep rocky hills.
Thought id get the best gears for the road and just deal with the rest. Both would give a better then stock crawl speed.

His calcs are good. 4000rpm with 31's (30.5"OD) + 3.9 + 6.5's should have you doing around 110/111kph

Mine with standard 5.12 diffs, g16a, 5 speed and 235's sits on 3450rpm. Then 3750rpm at 110.

Think the question here is, what RPM is the G16 most happy at cruising on 100KPH in 5th or top gear.

Id say get her very close to ~3500 and you will be sweet! IMO stock vitara gearing always seemed to tall.

Sounds about right, honestly.

When I'm driving on the highway, my Vitara does about 3100-3300 RPM at 100KM/h. That's with 235/75R15s.

Also I think there is to 5 speed gear boxes
Early ones had a lower 5 gear
I think it makes them rev about 200 rpm higher
