Drove from Brunswick heads to sunshine coast today and when i got home checked my car and noticed that a lug nut and the bolt had totaly sheered itself of??? I have no idea how it happend maybe it was loose ? Just wondering how this may happen and how to fix the problem i now have missing a bolt? and is it safe to drive around on in the meantime? thanks guys...

does the center hole in your rim fit on the lip behind the hub snugly?

yeah it seems to fit fairly snugly. there is about a mm gap at most

the stud has probably been overtightened by some muppet at some sage then, stick 5 new ones in and off you go

Tyre shops are what happens.

They overtighten the studs with rattle guns all the time (unless they have specific torque sockets). it might not break straight away but it stretches the stud and will fail later on.

The reason cars have a short wheel brace is so you don't over tighten the studs. I use a rattle gun to take the nuts off but I always use the wheel brace to do them up.

You should be right on 4 studs until you replace it.

okay sorry im not the most mechanical person and im not 100% sure on how to do this but im assuming i take off the rotors and they somehow screw in am i best of getting new studs from suzuki dealer so there genuine and i know they will fit or is there some sort of aftermarket thing available.

Not 100% on the jimny setup, but you have to knock the old ones out towards the car and new ones in. if there isn't much room behind you may have to take the axle out.

When fitting the new ones , use some washers and the nut reversed/flat side to pull them back in unless you have a press , don't hammer them in unless you use a copper or brass drift , they might be knurled or have a flat on one side , Cheers Paul.

alright ran into a bit of a problem with the jimny. i got the rotors off and then was looking at the studs and there is not enough room between the bracket holding the studs and the piece behind it so i will need to remove that im not to sure how i remove that section though? any ideas?
