Hey mate,

What is your budget on suspension? You can get a 3" lift for around $1200 from the UK and you will be able to put some 235's or 30's on but then you may want to address gearing which bumps the price up of the build.

As for tyres i'm running brigdestone 235's m/t;s duelers which work a treat every where, very similar tread pattern to the big horns. Brake lines? Yes you really should extend them when lifting over 50mm but i;m running a 80mm lift with out them but im a bit :crazy:

I bought a complete procomp lift kit from jimny bits with bushes, extrended lines, brake relocator ,springs,shocks etc for liek $1300 delivered, far far cheaper than a compartive local kit plus much better riding!

I've never really understood that myself. One locker is excellent and IMHO doesn't add enough capability to get you into trouble - you can still feel when the car is running out of grip, and it doesn't add so much traction you loose touch with reality. Open/open is just abusive in my opinion - having to bounce obstacles is hard on the car.

It's the second one that turns the car into more of a point and shoot deal.

Just my 2C - I understand the theory of learning open/open, but I guess it's what you wheel and who you wheel with. The rear locker cars are hugely disadvantaged in our terrain - it's pretty much going from obstacle to obstacle going "could have driven that with a front locker" over and over again.

gday guys i own a brand new d40 nav and just bought my toy, a 98 jimny, 1.3 sohc. i am keen to lift it and put muddies on it asap. i am after advice on which is the cheap and best options for a lift kit. i dont want to go any less than 50mm. and what is biggest tyre size i can fit with a 50mm lift. plan to put my uhf and amp in the car. have a tube bender at home so keen to make up some custom bars too. any other tips for mods i am keen. cheers guys.

Biggest tyres you can fit without cutting guards etc will be 215's. Obviously the best option for traction would be muddies.

gday mate im running the dobinson coils and ultima shock combo from suspension stuff.com https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au/shop ... e8df5bc464 and so far so good 50mm lift all round and hasnt sagged at all with the bar and flexes nicely And yeah biggest tyres youll fit under a 50 ml lift without having to chop alot out of the guards and bash in the guards will be 215 75 r15

Steve. yeah thats true, i know 3k isnt much, for now! haha plans will be big but for now im gonna just go for fun mud runs and shit with a few mates. just want a capable toy to play with, lockers are sweet but not sure the best for low price options, thats why ive opted the typical 2" lift and bigger wheels. front locker would be nice, probably convert the front to manual locking hubs then.

Have a read of some of the Jimny builds in "Rigs of Auszookers", you'll be able to make decisions based on what you like and are able to do yourself. Everybody does things different and there's lots of great info.

The TD are firmer and harsher riding than the ones in the procomp kit from jimny bits.
