I have never used nutserts before and I'm having a few probs. When I crimp them in they tend to pull the threaded part of the insert to one side rather then staying in the centre which doesn't allow the bolt to screw in? Any suggestions on what would cause this? What am I doing wrong? I used a big twin lever nutsert tool to pull them up |

Not enough pressure? Are they alloy serts? |

Stainless inserts and they seemed to crush ok still a little off centre in the test piece but the first in the guards the bolt got jammed grrr |

I have had some be ever so slightly off centre. It seems to pull towards the handle. On bike frames I go almost full pressure then turn the tool 180 degrees and then go full pressure. This gets it in the centre. On Guards this might be a little hard to do. |

Were u using a small tool like pop rivet gun? I'm gonna try one of these next and I'll try the 180 trick see how it goes |

i think you are pulling it up to tight we use them all the time at work and the only time we have trouble with them is when someone pulls it up to tight it pulls off center and we put stainless bolts in ours so that becomes a problem cause the bolts bind up. you dont actualy need that much pressure on them for them to grab. |

Another thing to consider is that stainless threads damage very easily and quite often strip out as the metal ia alot more brittle than steel. Consider getting some normal zinc steel nutserts. But more reliable than the SS ones, and they tend to crimp better also. |

Yeh nutserts are like sump and diff plugs. You dont tighten the hell out of them, they arent holding up the car. |

Could be the burrs actually. I didn't deburr the inside of the holes. And possibly to tight I'll retry some in some scrap |

To tight and with those big handles you may find that you are not square on the job. What size serts are you using "Thread size" I have 3 tools here doing up to 5/16" when doing them up you will find it is hard to start off and then it becomes easy then hard again that is as firm as they should go. Differand serts have differant feels to them and also some have ribs on the back of the flange to helh grip better. |
