Completely different gearbox. Just tell him to get some transfer reduction geras. |

ok .. well i made another post about this ... but the gearbox does not seem to be working the best. . it got stuck in 2nd gear towed it home with cluch burning etc.. anyways took the stick out theres nothing really left of the bushing .. i manged to get it into N by useing a Screw Driver and playing with the Shift Rails .. im just hoping with a new bushing it will work Prop ... ? Also With The 1 LT Transcase do we need to change that over to a 1.3 to do the Reduction Gears or are they basicly the same just with lowerstock Ratieos Thanks for anyinfo |

What year model is it? If its 85 or newer the current case will accept a gearset just the same as a 1.3L case would. Sould like the shifter bush is the problem. Fix that first. |

Just tell him to get some transfer reduction geras. Not necessarily true. If it is a Type 1 or 2 1.0lt, then yes, it is a different gearbox. But a Type 1 also means that the transfer case is the type that won't fit reduction gears! If it is a Type 3 (with full plastic dash), or Maruti, then the gearbox is the same design as the 1.3 5 speed, just with a different bellhousing. The rear case and internals of the 5 speed will drop into his gearbox and give him a lower 1st gear and a 5th gear. If you have a "4wd" light (either on the metal bit next to the ignition key on a Type 2, or a idiot light in the instrument cluster on a Type 3 or Maruti), then the transfer case will accept reduction gears. If you choose 4.16, 4.9 or 5.1 ratios, you will also require one gear from a 1.3 ratio transfer case to complete the set. |

Also what is that one gear Required for the set thanks Also Couldnt u Just unbolt The Bellhousing off and put the 5 Speed back end on the Bellhousing |

No, sierra bellhousings are not removable. Transfer gear time. I still don't believe the 1.0 has enough torque at 3600rpm to pull a 5th gear on the highway - A 1.3 sierra hardly has enough. Steve. |

Not tomention the fact that the 1L will struggle to hold 5th. I still think that reduction gears are the best option. Given that he already has 12% hirange reduction over a 1.3L case, he could get away with 6.5's, as this will only be a further 8%ish reduction over what he has now. Its also the cheapest, best value gearset, and it does not require parts from a 1.3L case. |

ok thanks for info guys but im still not sure if the gearbox is shot if the gearbox is broken how hard are 4 speed manual's to get ? im gona have a look at the box tonight got a new bushing for it also i do think reduction gears are his best options as well but i think he should go the 5.1s not 6.5s i seem to strugle in the sand with my 1.3 engine .. seem to have no gear .. no 2nd high = what gear set do u think guys hes only running 30s' he might go to 31s but yer not to sure |

Not to mention the fact that the 1L will struggle to hold 5th. [/quote] Putting the internals of a 5 speed gearbox into the late 4 speed is really no bigger an undertaking than replacing the internal gears of a transfer case, in fact with no shims to measure and being a "drop-in", it is probably easier. A 2nd hand 5 speed can be found for what? $100? Gears will cost a minumum $500 to $600. Even 1.3s can struggle to hold 5th, but the real benefit is reducing 1st from 3.163 to 3.652, a 15% reduction for $100 and done in the time it takes 2 blokes to drink 6 cans between them. Having a 5th gear means it's also more feasible to run LJ80 or 50 diff centres without losing road speed. And there's no reason he can't do transfer gears as well as the gearbox to make the 1.0 a real weapon! |

Not trying to pic an argument here but it would be absolute madness to buy a second hand box to swap the internals over and not run a bearing and syncro kit throught it. So add $250+ for that. And most transfer sets these days come with bearings, seals etc anyway, so the expenses stop at buying the kit. IMO ( and this is based on having owned both!) I much prefer the 4sp with the 1L than the 5sp with 1L. The F10 is designed to rev. And they do rev, HARD! Without revs, there is no power/torque. 5th is really only useful when coasting or on flat ground. They just don't have the herbs to keep up with an overdrive gear. IF combined with transfer gears (6.5's etc) 5th is a much better prospect. ( once again I speak from experience....although I only had 6.1's) |
