My motor is gone and it's been sittin for a while and i'm gettin pissed off that i'm not wheelin......

My options are....
1 can get all the gear i need and with a rebuild kit for $600 but i gotta put it all together!

2 Get a block and i can get a gbigger cam with nikki carby's and stuff for around $400 again gotta put it together and might have to buy a rebuild kit!

3 Wait till i find a cheap second hand i can drop straight in!

4 Bite the bullet and buy a full reco motor! About $1200

5 i can get a ute that a guy was workin on slowly is unregistered and doesn't have a tray BUT has a carolla motor and a few other things i wouldn't mind like the ute body and stuff......For $900!

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Find a second handy for $300 or so, get it going so you can wheel again, then start thinking project thoughts. Once you have the money, time and parts to do what you want then start. In the meantime you can still get out wheeling.

Yeah but the $300 motors don't pop up to much in vic the last motor i brought was from QLD and was $250 $350 landed to my door!

But i'm thinkin about the ute cause of the motor and stuff and all the spares i will have or can sell and make some money?

I know they used to use the carola motors alot in the early days are they still a decent motor to have in a zook now?

SOrry bout the questions but i'm a 2nd year app and i sort of need to spend my money wisely...... beer takes up alot of my income at the moment  as does the missus and stuff but the missus can miss out while i save for the zook!

I can borrow money off the olds there cool with that!

my problem was my motor kept dieing up hills jumping around etc and i had the mega cranks with it. Its now on my outside lawn. She was dieing pretty fast, huge fumes etc.

I ended up biting the bullet for a baleno 1.6 injected 8) Cost me 2k. Me doin all wiring, adaptors etc. Depends on ur skills, maybe vitara 1.6 efi...

Oh , and give up the drinking for your poor suzy for a while.. It helps alot, hence y i dont drink. Rather go out 4b

1. Start home brewing
2. Rebuild engine

You could wait around for a cheap 2nd hand engine, but generally Suzuki engines are flogged and not very well maintained. Figure out the cheapest & quickest way to get the thing running without cutting corners.

Nath , just scout around all the "pick-a-parts" !
find a 1.3 or 1.6 swift & rip the head off , check the bores !
if ok , pull the block & use it & your head !!!

Moose didn't think of searchin the wreckers for a decent block.....

Might get onto that!

For a baleno or 1.6 i would have to get it wired up i don't know any auto elec's it's pretty expensive isn't it?

I'm leanin towards the ute with carolla motor and straight swap the engine for now (All i need to do is get the engine number swaped yeah?) Then body when mine is finally rooted!

As for beer....... i gueese i could live with 1 slab a week but when ya go out it's the same price to drink beer then soft drink.... By the way i'm only 19!

Thanks heaps guys keep it comin!

If you still have the ORIGINAL matching engine, stick it in the shed and rebuild it as time allows..
I reckon stay the 1.3..

Sure its no powerhouse.. but why does it need to be? all you really need is for it to

A: be reliable, probably THE most important thing.
B:go to a minimum of 100kph a maximum to be respective.. 130.
C: have enough power to turn or not turn the wheels what ever the case maybe..

If dollars and connections allow, I say go the reco 1.3... installed with a registered mechanic, be it a friend or a shop, you will recieve a warranty to fall onto should it blow smoke one day soon, or should it have an internal malfunction  leasdt then at minimum the problem SHOULD sourced and fixed.

having that experience of purchasing a tired motor previously, and getting around 15thou k in 8 months I went fully rebuilt next. Money well spent if you ask me.. days turn around on ordering the engine and it arriving, one day turn around as the guy had to come out and helicoil a thread on the tunnel while radiator was sent to be flushed+checked, all new hoses ordered. week or so turnaround in after hours I reckon..

I say keep it the  devil  you know ;)

otherwise, like has been said.. go the pick a part way.

I find most of the engines I looked at(g13a/b) have AROUND 300 thou on the clock,so all either pretty well worn by now, or they were tappy...like... 'tappy..but thats normal...taptaptaptaptap clunk...tap taptaptap...." :? ..."ahhh.. no.." or if your lucky and its been looked after 200...ish with regular services.. so give or take another 100thou km left in it maybe.. cross both fingers AND toes, and hope the failure fairy hasn't waved its wand on what is chosen..

Yeah a guy i know went and loked at the ute and said it's a bit smokey and would only be good if you had the time to sort out the little problems!

So i'm pretty sure i'm gunna go with a cheap 1.3 for now and hope that lasts 2 more years then i'll of finished my app and go the 1.6 when it dies!
