I'll be installing my transfer case soon  and have been thinking about it's mounts. I never had a problem with mounts when I had a 4:1 case, but heard plenty of stories about people that tore mounts with those. Should I be worried about tearing up mounts with lockers, EFI 1.6 and 6:1 gears???

I've been wondering the same thing. I know a rocktoy ring and beefy arms would be the ideal setup, but i'm considering the solid mounts from locktup as a budget alternative.

Those solid mounts are kinda what I was thinking, except i'd probably ask Bruce to see if he could make up some poly ones for me. |

I think what happens is you blow mounts so you beef em up, you bend arms so you beef em up, you tear the side out of the transfer where the arms bolt on and your pretty well stuffed I think any type of mount that picks up as many transfer bolts as you can to spread the load is a good thing Mackay also make a lot of rubber mounts of varying sizes and duo so you can still have rubber mounts to give without ripping them up all the time Dont worry Damo, they are 6.1's they will blow on the way to its 1st offroad outing

on my dual case systems i always use rubber shackle bushes, but i have reluctantly done some for rockhoppers.....never broke my mounts...just started cracking the chassis. thats the reason why i only use stock transfers, duals and diff gears now. |

I too had this problem , what I found was when beefing up the side mounts the transfer case still twisted and broke the housing. A roctoy type mount with custom arms , you can't twist the mounts of the transfer case housing and the suspesion bush type mount keeps everything in place , my mounts mount to the cradle and not the transfer housing and don't risk damaging your gears , run VMX 80 and you will be fine , Cheers Paul. |

Sounds liike i'm on the right track then. VMX80, is that Castrol? Any reason in particular you use that one? |

i usually use a straight through bolt, but have rubber shackle bushes on each side so it allows some flex each way, up & down, and is not solid. |

Got the Spidertrax arms bent the last ones, once I put the Spidertrax arms on I ripped the mounts on the Chassis, so then i put new brackets on and went with straight through bolts with the Spidertrax bush kit so its still rubber to give a little movement, I want to get the Low Range offroad transfer bushes but they are still outta stock. I was thinking of putting a torque style bar (sorta like what some dragsters use from the engine to the chassis) to the transfer case with a home made ring to spread the load but Im still deciding if its worth it or if Ill just wreck my case...? Any way heres some pics

Any way heres some pics Damn, nice carnage on the chassis rails. From what i've read the case is the first go, so i'd be beefing that up. As you said, some type of ring that joins the 2 arms together. |
