Post subject:  The ACCC and me

With my Jimny off the road, and me being enraged about Suzuki not wanting to fix the Jimny wobble because of my 40mm OME lift, I have taken the matter to ACCC and FT.

Having spoken with Suzuki HQ about the issue, I'm apparently the first person with AM suspension to have been rejected the king pin replacement in accordance with their service bulletin (I must be the only person with a lifted jimny!). Furthermore, all the other Jimnys that have been fixed were stock standard, which is even more of an issue.

Am I the only one who has had big problems with Suzuki and their irresponsibility? I mean my car is under warranty, but I need to replace the original suspension just to have the issue fixed, NO THANKS!

Maybe I should try every remedy and spend hundreds, or maybe Suzuki could just fix their design fault?

Any advice would be nice... Castor correction maybe???

just put the suspension back to stock if you want suzuki to take any ownership.

if you design all the suspension geometry, how it moves, the sideways motions, then designed a axle to suit with tabs and set caster and everything else, then send sit off to an engineer to be approved and it passes, then what would you think if someone come back complaining about the death wobble and you see they have moved away from the original design and want you to fix it?

I know if i linked a zook for someone at a set height then they put 40mm talled coils in then winged at me about the anti-squat being out and it riding funny then i would tell em they changed it without consult so go drive off a clift.

Can you see there just covering there butt's and your mod is a good excuse?

I agree to some extent 31zook, however, this is a problem with standard Jimnys too. Suzuki need to make their fix available to all effected vehicles for this reason.

Pretty sure that modifications void warranties...

Perhaps if you spend thousands of dollars on an engineers report to conclusively prove that your lift has not contributed to your problems then you might get somewhere. Otherwise, they are well within their rights to tell you to get lost...

Yep. I agree that its a shitty situation, but suzuki are well within their rights to refuse the repair, as you have modified their design.

Just imagine you buy a new Sunbeam toaster. It comes with a 3yr warranty on all parts etc, provided it is used on a 220-240v power supply. So you plug it into a non-regulated power supply ( a generator whilst out camping) and it shits itself. You explain the conditions under which it failed, and they tell you to get stuffed, 'you used it outside the OEM design perameters'.

I reckon you are lucky they offered to fix it if you return it to stock! MOst suzuki dealers would argue that your suspension 'upgrade' actually caused te issue, and your warranty is now void!

Change it back to stock, then get them to fix it. I believe the ACCC will side with suzuki on this one.

Maybe some are missing my point. If Suzuki have have admitted of a common fault with the Jimny (modified or NOT!), then a modified Jimny should still have the faulty part fixed. Okay if the shocks were shot, of course I wouldn't go to Suzuki about it, but this is different. Also, as described by the ACCC and Fair Trading, I have a right to know of the issues before buying the Jimny (which I didn't) - just a side issue. Not only that, but this issue which I believe is a safety concern should be dealt with by national recall, not by a subversive service bulletin - for those who have not yet have the frightening experience to learn later. It seems the ACCC and FT agree, and interesting they want to know more. I suggest, if 80% of Jimny owners have had the problem, we make a noise about it.

If the Suzuki dealer had fitted the lift for you when you bought the car, then you may have a leg to stand on. But alas such is life, save your time and either put it back to stock or buy the parts to fix off Suzuki

I see your point about there being a problem; lifted or otherwise. But you are not looking at it from their perspective. They will have a set guideline for fitting and adjusting the corrected parts. There is no way for them to garantee that their "fix" will work on your vehicle, as you have altered the travel, spring rates, shockie damp and rebound performance, castor and a few other geometric items, giving an infinate number of possible causes for YOUR wobble (from their perspective). How can you expect them to agree to fixing your suzuki now when it is not as they sold it to you?

I'm not at all saying that your suspension kit has caused, or even contributed to the problem, but you have no proof otherwise.

As for making a stand against suzuki, well that point may well be moot. Changing safety laws have already seen the jimny dropped from sale in VIC, indicating that Suzuki may be happy to just let it die off in Australia, as state laws change and render it non-compliant.

Twice youve bought this up, The Jimny is still a legally complianced vehicle in australia and I am sure if challenged the weirdo Vic state law would be proven defeated

Collo, the problem is is that you want an action performed, an action that isnt a surefire fix for the problem, just one suggestion that may help, when your suspension can also be something that causes the fault.

By Suzuki performing it they are accepting that it is their fault to fix and are stuck with trying to make your non facotry stuff work

Yeah that may be the case, but I'd be interested to see the actual sales numbers of the Jimny Aust. wid, and I'd be suprised if Suzuki though it a viable persuit. But given that the dealers are telling the peeps of VIC that they aren't available, one could be forgiven for assuming that the lack of resistance on Suzukis' behalf would indicate their willingness to let the Jimny die off. (atleast in VIC)

As an aside, growing pressure for them to "fix" the wobble on just about every jimny ever sold; after 13 years of jimny production; why was this never rectified at the factory?

IMO Suzuki gave up on the Jimny long ago. :(

I drive down my side street and I count 4 jimnys, no Vitaras

You cant buy a Jimny for love or money right now anyway due to parts shortages so why would the Dealers bleat in Vic? jsut use it as a selling point to get people into little GV's

We only hear about the people having problems, who also funnily enough fiddle with things, I know a few Jimnys that have no issues at all, jsut cause its on teh internet doesnt mean its a balanced showing of something

Yeah I've driven an M-series Jimny that didn't have the wobble. And there are definately supply issues at the moment, and it wouldn't be the first time a dealer bagged one car to sell another.

And you need to move to another area. 4 jim's and no vitaras is just wrong

So while this battle with Suzuki continues, can anyone comment on whether the $140 for the 'secret fix' parts are good value, and if it actually fixes?

I'm thinking the labour will be the expensive part. Who would have thought a new Jimny would have such an issue. Maybe I should bite the bullet and buy a RTC or stabiliser and castor kit?

should have been fitted at the same time as the lift kit, steering dampener will mask the problem

Cherry cars arent allowed to be sold in victoria without stability control.

bullshit its a mask, stop reading others bullshit

why is something oscillating up and down (suspension) permitted to have something to arrest it but not side to side?
