Gday all, I need to find a leak, now it has probably been written a dozen times, but my search ability is not quite as good as say, a rock.

Carb vitara, swb, leaking water inside cab, drivers side. Cannot see where as in near the heater or by the door.

I have not noticed it before, but friday we had 2" of rain, staggering amount for here, and, water in the drivers footwell.

I will be leaving this at the airport shortly for a month or two, and do not want to have a swimming pool in it when I get home.

I pretty big an squeezing into tight spaces is not my ideal arvo search pattern.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction so, hopefully, i can find the source of water ingress and put a stop to it, please.

edit, how the bloody hell did i put this here, will cut n paste it to Suzi talk.

I don't get it, are you trying to sell your leak to someone or what?

I don't think many people will pay for a leak, most Sierra's come with one for free

no he's trying to get rid of it, hence it being in the section "getting rid of stuff"

hey David it could be leaking in around the front windscreen seal, if it's been replaced at some stage as they're only glued in.

Royce, that sounds really rude, crikey, im into a lot of things, but I dont love me vit that much.

I looked at the windscreen, looks sound, but to tell Id prob have to take the wipers n vent covers off.

Is this unusual in the vits, maybe my search wasn't as useless as I thought.

First I've heard of it in a Vit, but I usually switch off to Vit stuff

Do you know the history of the car? It sure sounds like a leaky screen.

You started it with squeezing into tight spaces

Seriously, unless the insulation up on the firewall is wet its the back door

The floor slopes down from back to front, the roof slopes from front to back with no rain lip on the roof so it curls round into the back door seal area, which from age is probably partially stuffed so it seeps through the seal and onto the rear floor - Carpet and runs forward

Mines always got wet carpet when it rains heavy

that's a possibility, as i think i've refitted my rear door seal the wrong way around after having it off for my drawer install & when washing it the other day i leaked like a mofo.

Post subject:  Re: Leak

ok, I have felt all around the back section, no moisture, under the drivers seat, dry as, the firewall on drivers side, dry as ???

I know its not the heater, as I have had a major leak there, green shit on me carpet, low water in the radiator, solved that by rerouting the two hoses, inlet and outlet to the heater, off the heater, joined as one hose.

Do I have to take the wipers off, and undo the vent covers ?, I feel its not the windscreen, but thats maybe a hope rather than a Know.

I was hoping its just similar to the sierras with the air vent being blocked.

The car has been pulled behind a bus for most of its life, so it has about 330k on it, but I believe that is mostly being pulled, not driven.

Till I put in full synthetic Mobil 1, 5w30, never used a drop of oil, then, after a while with the good oil, a liter per 100k, now mineral oil, 25w70 penrite, narry a drop used/lost.

The windscreen is very good, it must be a replacement, no chips/sandblast what so ever.

I have a wet dry vac, sucked up the water, possibly a cup, cup an a half, of course the carpet was still moist after, so it wasn't a lot of water, but, if I leave it out in the open for 2 months of southern winter, it could be a lot of ingress, meaning rust.

Maybe take the Maruti, leave the vit shit in the shed.

just pull the bungs and lift the carpet when you get out at the airport :)

or get some newspaper and put it over the carpet but so its not touching and hose all over the front, the paper will be wet where the water drips
