Post subject:  Winch fitting!
:helloo: Guys,

I'm am half way into fitting my winch, went to put the fairlead, and it won't go on. There is not enough room between the inside of the bar and the winch to get the nut in there to bolt the fairlead on as shown on this picture here.

Second issue is shown on this picture here

I can't do the bold up cus the fair lead is in the way, i would move it up by re-drilling the holes, but then there would be no way of bolting it on once again cus if the first issue :(




SO what do i need to put the fairlead on?

A off-set fairlead? or am i doing something wrong? :?

Issue 1.
Can the fiarlead nut go in before the winch? Or there there no physical room in any way?

Issue 2.
Grind off the some of the fairlead.

I have been told not to grind the fairlead down by the guy at me local 4wd shop.

And no there is not physical room to put the nut on, with out the bolt going in on a angle.

was it smiffkid at your local 4wd shop?

can you grind down the fairlead nut so it's "low profile"

the fair lead should be in line with the bottom of the drum so the rope comes straight out.

Point the fairlead bolt outwards so you only have the head near the winch, as for grinding the fairlead I would ask dank rather than your local guy

Just had a look in google, and this picture come up, is that a off set failead? Cus that would solve my issue :?

Instead of using bolts get some allen key cap screws.

x2... Looks possible from the pic anywyas, and it looks like that's the way it is in the other "offset" picture?

i think you'll find that the fairlead is symmetrical.

Looks like your hoarse fairlead is upside down , the bolts that hold the winch generally have the same centres as the winch mounts , a better picture would help from the front , Cheers Paul.

I can't really see how much the bolt is touching the fairlead in pic 2, but why can't that bolt be done up with a spanner?

Couple of options:

Option 1: Space the winch back with some washers to fit the bolt head. Been done plenty of times and is effective

Option 2: Bolt the fairlead to the bottom mounting point of the winch and cut the bar plate out of the way so it only rubs on the fairlead if its in the way. This is how mine was on my ARB bar.

Option 3: Use an offset hawse fairlead.

Monkey if you want to, you can keep your fairlead and I will do you an offset one for 50% off which is $85 -50% + $10 postage = $52.50.

i was thinking the same thing with the lights & winch controller there + the stock bumper has a couple of decent air dams in it that are now gone.
