Hi guys , Havn't even owned this sierra for 2 weeks and its copped out on me :(

specs :
1.3l 1984 high top (220xxxkm)

I was driving and it was running a bit rough and sluggish which had me worried but before I could turn around and head home got a big backfire and cloud of black smoke and the she died on me. Cranked it and no fire , Got a tow to my place then RACQ put some fuel in and jump started and she fired up but now with a bottom end knock?

What could of happened?

I've checked with local wreckers (gold coast) and no one has a 1.3l so are there any other motors that pretty much drop straight in?

Cheers
Adam

Stekky was selling a 1.3 recently, pretty smokey though iirc.

Or there's another in the for sale section for around $500 I think.

have you checked the oil level?

If it was running ok and then suddenly died for those reasons it sounds like it had no oil?

Checked the oil and that was all good , I had hit a pretty big pot hole in a paddock and then there was a slight noise from the engine , could it of skipped a tooth or two on the timing gears?

I was told you could pick them up like $300 :S

You can, but the one I picked up for $350 didn't blow smoke for like 2 months, then it started to and it's really using oil now.

I'm going to go with a g16b conversion :D

EDIT: So does it smoke at the moment? What symptoms have you got, or was it just that one big boom and now it's back to being fine?

i was at a wreckers weekend just gone and i was pulling axle/ cv out of a 1.3 soft top it still had the motor. try hinterland 4x4 and commercial wreckers in ashmore (i think thats the name) you will probly have to pull the motor yourself though or labour costs will rape your poo valve

Gold coast 4x4 and commercial? I called them today and they said they didn't have one for a while

How hard is a G16b conversion? is that out of a vitara?

It was blowing a tiny bit of smoke with normal driving (pre bang and poof) now it is just running really bad , bottom end knock bad....

Depends which G16B

Vitara G16B is easier than either of the Baleno G16B's

There's a G13BA (what you just blew up) for sale in the getting rid of stuff section. I've done this (quick swapover) and it's lasted me a while, original plan was to rebuild the donk that I took out and then put it back in, but my carby shat itself as well so when I factored everything in, I might as well go for a conversion.

Otherwise, try the one stop suzi shop at Nerang, they might be able to help you out but it'll cost $

selling it ?

or I may just try source another 1.3 , the wiring for the g16b seems difficult

I'm unsure if i want to perform a g16b conversion or drop a 1.3 back in , I'd rather the easiest option of the 1.3 just to get it up and going again
