Hi all, As some of you may remember I (well my mechanic actually) had a saga where the camshaft merged itself with the head. After a huge amount of searching around I finally found a motor here where the guy was kind enough to sell us the head separately. All got put together last week but now we have a whole new problem! Are there ANY differences in the G16A engines? With the new cam, head and housing, the gear sits about an inch away from the cam so the distributor can't be driven! So either the cam is shorter, the housing is different or something... Anyone able to give me some help or suggestions as to what on earth is going on? Thanks heaps! Pete P.S. I have had this car for 2 weeks and the mechanic for about 8 now, I really want it back on the road again

To my knowledge all the G16a cams are the same, the only difference being the escudo TBI where it has no drive for the fuel pump, Reasonably sure the vitara G16a housing has 60A stamped on the back of it to tell you if you have the correct housing or not.but will check tomorrow at work. You can use a vitara dizzy in a sierra but not the other way, Does the dizzy have any further shaft after the driven gear? if so its the wrong dizzy but this would show by the dizzy not fully fitting into the housing id asume. The only other thing that have seen done is an SA swift dizzy being fitted, norm ppl use the housing aswell due to it being a little thicker in the dizzy shaft and some what shorter, but have seen a couple machined down, and the housings shortend to make them fit. Rough as guts way to do it but you can buy after market ign modules for them if they go wrong. Part number on the dizzy should tell you if that is the case.

Thanks for the help. He is going to check the housing number and also see measure the cam length etc as we are completely stumped as to how they could possibly be different! Cheers Pete

Ok the problem was the cam.... the location of the gear at the end was different! On my original cam it was right up flush with the end of the cam, on the one in the 2nd hand head we bought the gear was about 1inch away from the end of the shaft. No idea why as I have never heard of different cams for the 1.6 carby engine.
