hi all

would someone be able to tell me how to set a timing belt tensioner its for a 1.6 carby vitara

You should see the mark left on the adjuster when you undid it, return it to that position and tighten. The belt shouldn't be overly tight and shouldn't move more than 1cm when you press down with 1 finger. Same go's for the other belts.

Because new belts are stiff, you should check it after 1000km or so.

General rule for timing belts are on the long side of the belt you should be able to twist the belt 90 deg, if you can go further its too loose and less is too tight.

Taylor74 is spot on with the 90 degree twist
Just recently did the timing belt on my 94 Sierra and a mechanic mate said the exact same thing. Did as he advised and have had no dramas at all. Alot easier than measuring the deflection of the belt blah blah blah.
Been going strong for a few months now. :D

thanks all for your help. got it up and running now. allmost lost the front wheel taking it for a test the nuts had worked there way allmost off
