well it finally stopped changing gears on the bridge, in the middle of Ipswich yesterday. It had been getting very loose in the gearshifter. Anyway got it home, took the boot off the shifter, undid the 3 bolts on the top and then the shifter just came straight out (dont think this is right). I looked at a manual but it wasnt very clear. What do I need to fix this?

It comes out pretty easy if you get it out at the right angle.
But yeah, is there a bush there?

You might want to get yourself a shifter locating bolt too.

Thanks

Damo my son was driving so sucked in to him. He also jammed the transfer between hi and low - nice work.

Just cleaned out the top of the gearbox - just lots of ground crap in there no bush or anything. Should there be a spring or something as well as the bush?

Bruce I'll take it if thats all I need PM your details etc

if you are in the bush, you can pull a rear diff bolt (from up high) and file the end to make one.

If you want to know how long it takes with a leatherman file...about 5 hours, and all the skin off ya thumb. 8O

mine came adrift a couple of months back, gear lever completely lost the plot..took out the old locating bolt and found the tapered end had disappeared broken off..reckon its down somewhere in the depths of my gear box not to worry replaced the bush and bolt..nut cost about $6.50..make sure you get the right bolt there's a large and a small..my 89 seirra took the small..
