well i pick up a set of landcruiser 60 diffs tomorrow and will be starting to put them in next weekend.
any tips from people that have done it.would be good. they are going into a 84 1ltr chassis

why go 60 diffs...hard enough to get them into a 40 series.

width, the rear pumpkin if off set the same as a zook diff, bigger every thing as i want to run 33 + wheels and i got them, drive shafts and power steering box cheap.
was going to go hilux but to much stuffing around with the rear drive shaft.

60 diffs with 33 or 35's is like a sierra running 30's...no real benefit, and the vehicle will be over gvm. and its a lot of rotating mass to get moving.

i want to go the diffs because it will be spoa so the extra width is good, more weight down low won't hurt and with clearing the center if it doesnt clear i'll take another line. don't get to many deep rutted tracks around here and if they are you can drive aroung them. i want it to play on rocks and big angles
my last car was spoa sierra axles with 33 and it was very tippy, kept breacking things and very under braked for the weight of the wheels on the road so i wanted bigger brakes and more width better raito in the diff.
how much more do you think the diffs are? they are about 60 -70 kgs (rough guess as i know the centers are 31 and the housing is 24) each end and sierras are about 40kgs i'd say.
i'm not going with a sierra engine, i'm going a piazza ( 110 kw @ 5400 and 225nm @3000) and auto box so that will turn them pretty well i think.

you want this thing legal?.....cause it won't happen. and as far as spoa on sierra's 99.9% of them are done wrong by people who think they know what they are doing. we have a few down here that are settup correctly, but not cheaply, and they don't have any dramas, and they are 100% legal.

why would it not be legal? i'm going as wide as i'm going up, all the extra weight is down low, bigger brakes. the only thing i think i will have a problem is the spua to spoa. you can engineneer spoa here and there is a car pretty much the same (its lwb mine will be swb) as i'm doing engineneed with a flip front in sydney and canberra is the same rule book.
the spoa is pretty much for the approach, ramp over angles and to fit the centers.
the last car was done right, all the caster was right and drove very stable at speed, didnt wander, get speed wobbles or light in the steering. if i was staying with the 1.3 and staying sierra diffs i'd keep it spua and lockers but the 1'3 doesn't have the go i want to drive on the road or the brakes to stop if you need to on the road. i was breaking stuff already in the last car and the angles i want to play on i need more width.
i was going to go hilux diff but they have less track and then the 60's i have more problems with the rear tail shaft but the plus with them are they are spoa stock and a bit lighter

got some pics of the old setup? most engineers nowadays follow the ruling of no more than 150mm height increase from stock roof height. spoa and 60 diffs will prob be too much. also be weary of new engine laws too.

no sorry, just got pick of driving it and when i was working out the shocks. the front diff was moved forward buy re drilling the spring pads back a bit and the high steer was a nuckel job not the brake caliper. i didn't do the spoa on that car, i got it like that and just sorted the shocks and engine out.
at full flex the front uni would bind and kill it self so on the 60 diffs if its the same i might give a nuckel and rotate ago to try to stop it.
