hey guys i have a 89 vitara with a carby engine and when the engine is under load it makes a loud ticking sound ive checked the drive line and all that sort of stuff but it sounds like it is coming from the motor oil levels are fine anyone know what it could be? |

run better quality fuel or retard your timing a bit.. thats if it the problem.. id put a timing light on it and set to factory specs |

thats if it the problem.. id put a timing light on it and set to factory specs i run 98 all the time my dad is away for a week is it bad if i continue to drive the car until he is able to help me with the timing? |

i have a timing light you can borrow if you need it jesse. mine was ticking but at idle so i put slightly thinker oil in and it quieted down a bit but sounds like you have a different issue. |

Well it definately sounds like it's pinging given the symptoms. I'd be checking base timing for starters. |

Put 98 fuel in and drive it around and do not labour it and when the old man gets back time it with the good 98 fuel you should be able to sneek the timing up a bit also to give it a bit more power. |

Just drive it like a granny and back off if you hear the noise. Can lead to blown head gaskets and other nastiness if left unchecked. |
