Post subject:  Delamere lj80 or lj81
i picked this up yesterday, with the intention of robbing the parts i wanted, and parting out the rest. but it is too good to part out, eg, no rust and runs well, got it running this arvo, with a jerried up fuel supply. i have the option of leving it on the lj80 chassis or putting the cab on the lj81 (old rusty) both have good motors and running gear, this is the Delamere, are the longer wheel based utes better off road.

Do you mean dilemma?

Longer wheelbase aids climbing but reduces maneuverability. How much wheelbase you need depends on how steep your tracks are and how much tyre you are running.

I'd run the 81.

Looks like a Stockman soft top with the windscreen welded in place. Maybe pick the best chassis, both have their advantages, SWB started at 76" and 81 started at 86", not as if either is particularly long. The ute is safer on steps on big long hills, swb for gulley wheeling. Edit: the shorty is much more fun if you have big balls! (or small brain like me)

dilemma?, this is what happens when spell check gives you more than one option. thanks for both feed backs.
i have watched some of the youtube video's at ripley, and it is my hart not my balls, i would be worried about. its been over 25 years since i drove an LJ, an the mind protects you by blocking out these memory's.
it is an 1980 stockman soft top, and yes the screen has been welded in place, not my choice, but you take them as you get them.

will drive better and be a touch smoother on the road.

The "Magic Carpet" seats in that cab will help with a comfortable ride!

They are a fine set of seats. Not much good until they have legs I guess. Another good thing about the ute is there's room to lift the fueltank (of course that is you even intend to wheel it hard) as well as lots more room.

i don't what the seats are out of, but they fit fairly well, and remove the slide rails, and make a sub frame to suite the original lj mountings, they would fit nicely.
