What are you driving? If its a sierra, check the speedo cable is still attached to the transfer.. If it is, check it is still attached to the back of the cluster. |

And if the cable has snapped somewhere in between you can normally hear the two broken ends clicking as one spins |

And what happens when you can't get a gps fix or it drops out, you have no speedo? |

I've run one in various cars for a about 2 years or so, and not once had problems running it. A bloke in katherine called Luke, pretty sure Shep knows him, has run one for a few years in his old toyota Zombies and never had problems. As everyone knows we have some pretty awkward terrain up here and in the wet season have rain clouds thicker then maple syrup, and not once have I ever lost signal. Pretty sure Droopz hasn't lost signal in his Zombies either. |

And come to think of it after initial lock on GPS i've NEVER had a signal drop out on me. And that's going bow hunting in rain through arnhem land, daly river plains, fishing numerous rivers ie. daly, aligators, roper, margaret, wildman, adealide, katherine, fishing the Timor Trench, The tiwi islands, Vernon islands. Basically everywhere in the Territory. So that points pretty moot. |

GPS would be sweet in Darwin.. Then you come to Brisbane and try to drive something like the clem7, thats full of speed cameras and your GPS doesn't work.. I use a GPS speedo on my phone... And try avoid tunnels... |

Doubt they would work in the bigger citys of the world where we have things called Tunnels |

Not just tunnels, even in built up area with lots of big buildings GPS can be unreliable at best... |

There's an ebay link above. Although I can just about guarantee that they are not ADR compliant and therefore not legal. |

Exactly, they are not legal, so your car will not pass a roadworthy inspection if the standard speedo is not working. They are however (in my opinion), accurate enough for you not to get done by a speed camera.* *As long as you are not: - driving in a tunnel - near tall buildings - under a very thick forest canopy - at, or close to the poles, where satellite coverage is not too good - during a time of greater than normal sunspot activity - during a time of "political unrest" i.e., the yanks "may" degrade the position accuracy... |
