hey all,

on a US site a set of 5.38, 5.62 diff gears for a vitara (trackick as they call them) have come up, $500 for the 5.38 and 1 grand for the 5.62's. i would like to run 31's but my issue is gearing, would the 5.38's give me some kind of decent gearing (stock?).

im not really prepared to pay $1000 for the 5.62's, before last week i never had heard of these.

so has anyone heard anything about these and would it be worth the money or just stick with my current 5.12?

cheers
Mitch

Post a link to the site, pretty sure they don't make them anymore and when they did they were pretty weak :?

Be good if it gave good gearing. But would they make highrange terrible? (Gearing isnt my forte')
How would this be with highway

I would stick with the 5:12's and look for better gearing in the case.

5:12's are pretty damned low, but 5:38 is not much of a jump at all for a grand. Even the 5:62 is not a whole lot lower especially for the money.

Most guys use those close ratios to fine tune their upper RPM for power, and to keep the rev low. Now 5:88's may be a bigger difference, and they can be had for around $200 fo a set of ring and pinions

To get you high range gearing back with the 31's you'd need to look at the 5.6's.

That's a lot of coin just for R&P's even in my eye's, as once you get them here you still need to get them installed, unless they're complete diff centres?

thanks for the reply, its $500 for the 5.38 but yeah i get what ur saying.

skyman; where can you can those 5.88's from??
atari: thats what the seller said but wasnt sure. and yeah they are in "thirds" as they call them. the front has 22 spline so i would get just the R&P but the rear is 26 spline so would prob get the centre if shipping didnt cost to much. but if its not worth it, then im not going to waste my $$$.

especially when i just got my front diff swapped to the steel housing.

this is the link: http://www.zukikrawlers.com/showthread.php?t=39475
dont buy them all incase i need them!

the words "hard to find " would put me off.
A lot of work/money, with little chance of finding another if breakage happens.
I want 5:6's but don't want rare, I want piles of easy to get spare bits.

An undertaker could be a better/cheaper option ?

well undertaker requires a lot of custom fab works new hole in tunnel, new front & rear shafts ect.

this is what i asked about the rarity of the gears,

ok ill see what i can find, do the 5.38-5.62 gears come up for sale often? when paying decent money for them i dont want damage them, then not be able to find a replacement set if needed.

I have a couple of sets of each ratio. So if you need a replacement, I will probably have some.

ok well if the 5.6's are still going to be to low, then i guess im not going 5.3's. thanks

I am running 5.85 in an 8 valve 2dr with 31 simex centerpedes. I usually sit on about 90kmh on the highway in 5th. Off road they are really good.

sierra's run 2 Vitara fronts, the vit rear is a fair bit larger.

yeah so the front would fit but not rear. i guess thats the reason for you post before.

Possible if a matching ratio for rear, maybe yota or similar exists,
then could still be possible...for people cleverer than me
