I made enquiries with a few brake suppliers yesterday for my 08 Jimny. A couple said their books showed different part numbers for different years.

So, how many variations are there for both front and rear, and rotors?

Found an eBay seller that suggests that his product suits all models.

eBay Brake Shoes
and
eBay Disc rotors

So which is correct? Same throughout, or variations?

edit: Also, anyone know these brands and the quality?

Did later ones come with ABS? If so the rotors would have sensor rings, shoes and pads are the same I think.

There is a variance... What year model they changed I am not sure.. The disc are different.

I think it was Zukenutter who came across it. From memory it is not because of the abs.. But a change in the hub... The centre hole in the new model disc are slightly larger

I have a full set from an earlier front end. No idea what year but might do a comparison.

The ABS sensor ring is separate from the disc, but will see if it changes anything.

I also would like opinions on weather holes or slots in a rotor would help channel away dirt and water, hence reducing the wear of the pads over a time.

Also, the seller of the pads offers 3 variants. Are these likely to be 3 different qualities, or matter to me with regards to performance and wear?

I've only ever found I get less dust with the higher quality pads. On a couple of performance vehicles I've owned the brake fade was much lesser too, but I can't think it would make a jot of difference on a 900kg jimny with it's throbbing 1.3 powerhouse.

I fitted the slotted rotors off this very guy on ebay on my pajero and they were good quality. I hammered the hell out of them - 2000kg of automatic Pajero slowing from 110kph - 0kph on the daily drive home regularly and they didn't warp unlike the factory rotors which warped pretty quickly.

Aftermarket drilled rotors have been known to get stress cracks at the holes. Slotted, eg DBA ones are meant to be really good, especially after water crossings etc as they self-clean faster.

I don't think the pads will have reduced wear though. I thought it was quite the opposite. I thought you get better braking, ie less brake fade at the expense of pad life.

EDIT: Those DBA rotors in your first ebay link are dimpled not cross drilled so shouldn't have stress crack the problems I mentioned above.

I expect the slots would have more effect on draining/self cleaning than holes or dimples, so thats what I'll be looking for at some point.

I think that the rotors changed at the same time as VVT models with optional ABS.I think the bigger main hole was due to ABS ready hubs. Is only a mm difference. I have a pair of early model rotors which I'll get machined. I haven't been able to find after-market rotors for VVT Jimny.
