Hi Everyone, I just wanted to sense check with you all. So I was about to do some beach driving a couple of weeks ago, but when I tried to engage 4WD (push button) the dash lit up and flashed, but nothing happened. Anyway it was due for a service so I took it to my local dealership for the service and to diagnose and repair the problem. I went to pick up my Jimny last Friday night only to be told it had been serviced in the morning, but they had not long been trying to diagnose the issue with the 4x4 not engaging. They advised they would need it longer, but gave me a brand new SX4 for the weekend - I was grateful as my other car was going in for a service on the Monday. Anyway fast forward to Tuesday and after me having to contact them a couple of times for an update I am told that they cannot figure out what the problem is and want to order a couple of parts from Japan (6 weeks) to start what they call a process of eliminating the problem. The bit that I am a little pissy about is that they can't even tell me if the part they are replacing is broken or whether that will even fix it. The parts are $200 and I have been told by Suzuki that I have to pay for the parts whether it fixes the problem or not. I have since rung Suzistore and they have asked me to leave the Jimny with them for a couple of days to look into the possible cause. Am I right in thinking that it's bollocks for me to fork out an endless train of money until they magically find the part that fixes my 4x4 problem?? |

I wouldnt be having a bar of that mate, if there buying all these parts and replacing them to test them, then whats the difference to just pulling it all apart and finding the perhaps single broken part before buying all this other crap. Thats like saying we dont know whats worng with your front end so we'll just buy all new hubs, axels, diff centers, CV,s, bearings, shims the lot and then just replace the broken part. its not worth fixing if it aint broken ... and yes i bought my car (2nd hand) without an warranties for a better price as i knew my mods would void it (anything diff to manufactures specs) |

Have you made any modifications to the transfer, the wiring, or the vacuum hubs? If not, then nothing else should make much difference. They might try and argue that lift or wheels will affect it - I'd be asking them to demonstrate exactly how the lift and larger tyres contributed to the breakage/wear of the part in question - given they can't even identify the problem at this point I think they'll find it hard to stump up proof... |

mmm thats poor IMO... sure, someone needs to pay for the parts but all the trial and error replacements can't be your responsibility, even if its not under warranty. Theyre the manufacturer and they should be able to diagnose a problem. i can understand if they wanted to charge for a faulty 'X' after doing all the trial and error replacement though, but not the other bits that didnt help. hopefully suzistore prevail and its something simple and cheap! |

Surly after doing the 1.8 conversion you could rectify this problem yourself? |

I think I might leave it with Suzistore because this whole idea of waiting six weeks for parts with no guarantee of a fix sucks. I'll play the warranty card with them and ask them to prove the fault is related to my mods...obviously they have to know the fault first. There have been no transfer case or hub mods whatsoever. I get the feeling they are just washing their hands of me... Suzistore did my engine conversion. |

Good luck, but I'm sure they can argue that the extra power and bigger tyres have placed an extra strain on the 4WD system. And sometimes, fault finding does just come down to trial and error. |

have u tried the i wanna speek to your manager card! EDIT soz bout the multiple typos You are confusing WARRANTY with SERVICING Unfortunately there are a few mechanics out there now were never trained to diagnose and repair, just service and replace so they dunno what to look for Unless what they are really telling you is there is some part of the electronics they cant tell for sure is faulty or not and they need to replace it and see, sometimes this happens with ECU's and so on that everything seems ok but it isnt |

If the parts stay in your car, then yes... Otherwise its double labour so they can take them out again... |

Does the front hubs on the push button models work with vacuum the same as the lever one's? On the lever one the two valves that work the hubs get dirt on the face of the valve and then it can not seal properly. The dash light will flash if hubs do not engage.Does it go into low but front hubs do not engage or does nothing happen at all? |
