ok so a while ago on my trip from tassie i made the decision to keep driving with a hot engine full knowing the possible consequences (it had a blown head gasket) and they are now all coming to light.. basically my engine was rebuild around 15000km ago (i got everything done to bottom end, hone, decked, pistons, rings bearings etc), however due to a mistake of my own i poped the head gasket on the way up from tassie (yeah shit happens) but due to driving it so hot for so long 120' ish for nearly 2000km i believe i have glazed the shit out of bores so i am left at a bit of a pickle. i have access to a gti head that "should" be perfect, also a 1600 bottom end.. my idea atm, get head checked and new valve stem seals fitted, plane and a general check over, pull my motor down, flex hone bores fit new rings, new seals/gaskets and rebuilt head, re assemble and fit to car. what is peoples opinions of this??? i looked into the GTI/1600 route but that just looks like 2 much work and issues. and i already have enough of them atm! i will add the car is fine to drive atm.. just the oil use is starting to give me the shits! |

Just keep buying cheap oil like I do :p Realistically it sounds like the only cheapish option. |

You won't have glazed the bores unless you drove in dusty conditions with no air cleaner. You are using oil because you overheated the rings and they have lost their tension and are now not scraping the bore like they should. |
