Why do I never hear of anyone looking for a LSD? Did they not make them for sierra/coily/jimny? How exactly does a lsd work? Better or worse than lockers? Dave |

its like a coaster brake on a bike... sliding clutch thingo... its better than an auto locker on the road, but not as good offroad... theyre also hard to find. |

calmini list them on their website, but say they are currently unavailable i need to get up to perth at some stage and meet up with a few fellow members |

The phantom LSD's are a waste of time and money. They never work as they say they do. Ask Bugsta, pretty sure he had, or looked at them for his jimny |

Do eaton make one of there geared LSD for a sierra. There ment to be the best LSD in the world. |

And that's the problem. An LSD is a limited slip diff - they will always permit some slip. LSD's are a good solution for a powerful road car where you don't want the inside wheel smoking up out of corners - and in this application they are very effective. They do increase oversteer though, and in a light SWB road car that isn't necessarily a good thing. They are almost never tight enough to allow the car to continue to drive if one wheel is in the air. If they are shimmed up tight enough to work under those circumstances, they are possibly more annoying than a spool - clattering and dragging wheels on tight turns. I have some experience with the eaton/zexel torsen ot "Torque Sensing" diff (which is the one I think you are referring to got_bar_work) they are a reasonably effective LSD, but don't really work well until they are heavily left foot braked This is fine with an auto, but very hard with a manual. They are the diffs used in the military Hummer, and they suit the nature of military use quite well - the drivers are trained that if the car starts to slip, they stand on both pedals. My dad had a Hummer and had issues with the rear Zexel - borken worm gears leading to random grabbing). He replaced both front and rear diffs with airlockers. Whilst left foot braking is very effctive for obstacles, it's a dumb way of driving up long greasy hills. I don't believe the torsen diff is available for a suzuki. Steve. |
